So, we are now counting wins and losses in exhibition games? Idaho probably won’t be any good, but this doesn’t count.

Other notable NAIA/D1 matchups:

The Master's women beat CS Northridge 65-61
Concordia (NE) Women lose to Creighton 85-83 in double OT
Lewis-Clark women lose to Montana 81-69
Rochester (MI) lose to Oakland University 61-59 (tied at 59 w/ 18 sec left)
Bethel (TN) women lost to Middle Tennessee 64-53 (Bethel led 39-38)
Montana Tech lost to Idaho State 62-52 (tied at half, 58-52 with 1:11 remaining)
Carroll College women lose to Montana 74-70 in OT (Carrol led by 3 w/ 40 sec left in regulation)

Plus a lot of blow outs.

Of course, all these games were on the D1's home court.

Syracuse lost to crosstown D2 LeMoyne in 2009, BTW that 09-10 team was a Top 10 team.

Happens occasionally

I get the impression the D1 programs let this happen. It doesn't count, so it takes pressure off. Work out the rust. And, it may be an opportunity to test the bench and try different lineups and different looks to get some practice in before those experiments become more costly in countable games. It can also be a way to discipline your team, having them humbled in a way.

Still funny, though. I'm looking forward to the laughable scores threads for the hoops season. Southland is usually good for a laugh.

The 2019-2020 Idaho men's basketball team will stand as the coda to Chuck Staben's godawful legacy as president. Our competent-but-unspectacular basketball coach insufficiently kissed the Staben ring, so Staben trumped up some incredibly ticky-tacky NCAA "violations" (scandalous stuff -- a non-coach acted as a rebounder during a practice, and some coaches watched a pick-up game without filling out the right forms) to suspend the coach during recruiting season and then fire him for cause in literally Staben's last hour as president.

This happened in mid-June, way too late to hire a new coach but in time for most of the young guys who gained experience last year to transfer out of our dumpster fire. So we have an interim coach who just barely found enough bodies to fill out a roster, and we're going to zombie stagger through the rest of the year before the whole thing gets blown up again by a new coaching hire in March. And by the way, the fired coach has filed a seven figure wrongful termination suit, which he will probably win.

I'm not sure how anyone could have fouled up an athletic department more comprehensively than Chuck Staben. It's almost genius, in a reverse sort of way.

Here's an article for context: https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2019/j...aho-in-co/

In the first half, you may be right. But I have watched a lot of these games over the years, and once the NAIA team shows that it's competitive it becomes very serious. No D1 wants a loss to an NAIA team on it's record even if it's an exhibition. But the close scores of these games show that the differences aren't as big as most people assume. Good NAIA teams are made of mostly of starters who had an option to play on a low D1 team, or ride the bench on a good D1 team. Bench players on NAIA teams can be easily overwhelmed, and that's where the D1 teams usually win. You can't realistically play only your starters for the whole game.
