Big loss or no? Probably need a Cincy fan to add some input

I'd kind of lean on the side of a big loss. Program has done so well in the big 2 sports.

$90M Football Renovation project
$86M Basketball Renovation Project
Negotiated Under Armour apparel deal which is among one of the top 2 in the G5.
Hired Luke Fickell
Hired John Brannen for hoops
Hired Michelle Clark-Heard who has taken the WBB program from a laughing stock to its best season ever
Hired Scott Googins for baseball who took the Cats to their first post-season since the 70s.
The GPA of our entire athletic department is tops in the conference and one of the best in the country.

Yeah... sucks for UC.

Yeah... sucks for UC.

Does the school at least get a big buyout to use in hiring a replacement?

He is also a genuine approachable guy.

RE: USC AD news
Terrible timing for UC.

UC football coach Luke Fickell is going to start getting P5 offers in the next 4 weeks. He turned down West Virginia and Louisville last year, but it's hard to see him staying if Florida State or another heavyweight rolls out the Brinks truck.

UC needs an AD in place NOW to try to hang on to Fickell for another year, or to hire his replacement. The coaching carousel is opening in 5 weeks and will be completely closed in 7 weeks. Can UC hire an AD and get him up to speed that quickly?

Good hire. Can he convince Urban Meyer to come to USC? If yes, then it is a home run pick for AD.

It would be surreal if Cincy's AD and football coach both joined Mick Cronin in sunny SoCal (albeit at different schools).

Fickell is great, but Louisville didn't approach him. Once Brohm snubbed us, we zeroed in on Satterfield and spent all our efforts on landing him.

Seems like UC would do well to promote from within their department. Keep the momentum Bohn has created, going.

Bohn is a good AD, but Cincinnati is set up well enough to attract another good AD to keep the ship moving. It should be a very attractable job, given the resources and fan support.

Major blow. No other way to say it.

I wonder if Tom Bowen, former Memphis AD, might be intrigued or if Cincinnati would be, for that matter. Bowen actually would bring various positives to the table. If anything, he knows the AAC and its ADs. BUT there would concerns if you're UC.

This is a situation where the wrong hire can damage the athletic department for the foreseeable future. Even P5 schools are not immune to this. Look at USC and Tennessee.

If Bohn is gone, would love to see Cincinnati hire Tom Jurich.

By F*** up do you mean like, win 12 games a year?

That would be a game changer. However, whether by his choice, or from the related association to Louisville’s probation and forfeited national championship that could scare off Presidents and administrators, he has not been connected to any AD jobs.

This would be a nice fit for him though.

Jim Tressel is an interesting name to come up. Not sure if he wants the job, but it would be a pretty good fit IMO.

These situations are tricky, and it’s usually not as clear cut as one side turning down the other, but UofL most certainly reached out to Fickell, and he said he wasn’t interested at this time. Doesn’t mean he was UofL’s choice or anything, but during the search, he was definitely contracted.
