With SMU's win over Tulsa we are now #70 in NET making us a Quad 1 road game for visiting teams and a Quad 2 home game for home teams. Significant news for our team's at-large chances. SMU is now an AAC scalp. Hopefully we don't get scalped though!

Question for Cincinnati fans:

How, in your view, has Cincy's new HC been able to get them to play as well as they have, despite having to do a major rebuild?

What have the keys to the team's success been, thus far?

Better than Sampson first year.

Am I right?

Say yes Justin… you are right

In fact Houston scheduled soft as hell for multiple years when Sampson took over

Sampson non conference schedule rank:
Year 1: 350
Year 2: 350
Year 3: 250
Year 4: 254
Year 5: 283
Year 6: 88

It took Sampson 6 years to schedule a top 100 non conference schedule

UC’s is 265 right now in non con.

lol yes Sampson on his 1st 3 years were intentionally horrible...but also not by choice.. nobody wanted to schedule us...

years 4 and 5 you noted were scheduled hard (looked good preseason), that turned out no so good

also pointing out the pre-conference tourney is carrying your sos.. Houston didnt have the basketball brand to get invited to quality tourneys 2016.. last year was the 1st majority high major tourney houston has ever been invited too.. your actually scheduling worse than us year 1 but have the brand to get invited to good tourneys

Coach P.

You smoking That good Houston Crystal?

Houston played 7 300+ teams in Sampson’s first year. UC played 1

You are insane. Truly truly bias in the worst way.

If we take away uc 2 tourney games… the average kenpom opponent rank is 213

Houston’s is 242

Ours is better EVEN without our 2 top 50 games factored in.

drugs are bad homie.

Why so defensive? Houston's schedule during Sampson's first season is irrelevant. Cincinnati has had a very weak non-conference schedule and is a mediocre team that has looked good thanks to its weak competition. That is also the case with SMU, but SMU is not the topic. Someone asked about Cincinnati and pesik answered with a rational response. Cincinnati is not a tourney team this year. That's to be expected as you are rebuilding. That's not an attack so no need to be defensive. We are all pulling for Cincinnati to win the Cotton Bowl tomorrow.

UC is having more then a mediocre year within context . They have a first year coach with all kinds of new players. They beat the number 14 team in kenpom by 21 points and went down to the wire with a pretty good Arkansas team.

UC has the best win in the conference. A 20 point neutral court win.

This has been raging success for UC with only 1 game where they truly stumbled.

I brought up Houston because UC is further along then Houston was in year 1 by a long shot.

Never thought Mobley was that good but Tony Johnson could’ve been a very good player. Bad news for UCF

Kendrick Davis earns National Player of the Week Award

Kendric Davis Named National Player Of The Week
Davis Earns Honor From NCAA.com And Lute Olson Award

DALLAS (SMU) - Kendric Davis was named the March Madness National Player of the Week by Andy Katz of NCAA.com and the Lute Olsen Award National Player of the Week.

Davis averaged 23.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals as the Mustangs started 2-0 in the American Athletic Conference. In the 74-69 win at Tulsa Wednesday, he had 26 points (19 in the first half), four rebounds and three assists. He followed that with 20 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, four steals and a blocked shot in the 72-60 victory against UCF Sunday.

This is his second career National Player of the Week honor, earning ESPN's award from Jeff Borzello on Dec. 7, 2020. He was also named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll. This was his sixth AAC weekly honor of the season, including three American Athletic Conference Player of the Week Awards. It his 17th career conference weekly honor, which is second at SMU to Nic Moore's 20 AAC weekly awards from 2013-16.

Through 14 games this season, Davis is averaging 21.5 points (1st AAC, 5th NCAA), 5.4 assists (2nd AAC, 29th NCAA), 4.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals (7th AAC) while shooting 48.6% overall (3rd AAC), 38.5% on threes (3rd AAC) and 88.9% on free throws (2nd AAC, 27th NCAA). Davis has a 2.2 assist-to-turnover ratio (4th AAC) and is making 2.5 three-pointers per game (3rd AAC).

The Mustangs (11-3, 2-0 AAC) have won eight straight games (Sam Houston, ULM, UNLV, Vanderbilt, Dayton, at New Mexico, at Tulsa, UCF) and are 9-0 at Moody Coliseum this season. The Mustangs play at Cincinnati on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT.
