Cafeterias
Had to start this thread because McLeansvilleAppFan only thought that Cafeterias could only have 2 letters in there name, which is incorrect. But I can understand why he thought this was a given fact since most old Hillbillies cannot read but do know the letters of the Alphabet but get confused when more than 2 are included.

Quote: At one time, upscale cafeteria-style restaurants dominated the culture of the Southern United States, and to a lesser extent the Midwest. There were numerous prominent chains of them: Bickford's, Morrison's Cafeteria, Piccadilly Cafeteria, S&W Cafeteria, Apple House, Luby's, K&W, Britling, Wyatt's Cafeteria, and Blue Boar among them. Currently, two Midwestern chains still exist, Sloppy Jo's Lunchroom and Manny's, which are both located in Illinois. There were also a number of smaller chains, usually located in and around a single city. These institutions, with the exception of K&W, went into a decline in the 1960s with the rise of fast food and were largely finished off in the 1980s by the rise of "casual dining". A few chains — particularly Luby's and Piccadilly Cafeterias (which took over the Morrison's chain in 1998) — continue to fill some of the gap left by the decline of the older chains. Some of the smaller Midwestern chains, such as MCL Cafeterias centered on Indianapolis, are still very much in business.

1. This might be the most pointless thread I’ve ever seen.

2. Their* name.

3. Do Southern fans not know what punctuation is? Clearly.

I can get behind this. Let's talk about Bickford's and Luby's.

While we’re at it, “ones” doesn’t need an apostrophe.

Yep. Tastes like a whopper. However, I prefer my seitan or whey protein "burgers" to not emulate the flavor of real meat. But that's just me.

Much more pointless than the 2 letter cafeteria threads, cause we know cafeterias with two letters are clearly superior

RE: Cafeterias
In 1986 I attended a 3 week training in Dallas. I was a Federal Agent. Dallas was considered a high dollar city and we were allowed $35 for meals. Back then that was more than I ever spent away from home.

For the first couple of days I spent the whole allowance. Then I realized that I could eat at Luby's cafeteria, have everything I wanted and more. It was better food and a great selection. So what if I only spent $8 or $9 per meal?

I can't give any more rep points today but knowing this thread exists puts a smile on my face. I even approve of the jab he took at us Mountaineers.

Would eating at a hospital also count?

Can understand not wanting the faux meatiness. I work with the ASPCA in Weaverville, many of us are vegan, and the Impossible Whopper has been a huge hit. I haven't been sure how authentic it tastes, though, because I'm pretty sure you lose track if you haven't eaten meat in a while. I suspect a lot of faux meat products are designed to taste more like what a vegetarian remembers meat to taste like than they are to taste like actual meat. This Whopper is apparently a step "forward," though...

Note to self: Excellent way to insult a conference foe would be to get a degree from there, then insult myself...

EDIT: Oh, and on the topic, I have many memories of spending time at the mall in Albany, GA, as my dad looked forward to liver and onions from Morrison's.
