RE: BC hires Jeff Hafely
I like this hire a lot by Boston College. When the Eagles have been at their best, they have done really well recruiting Eastern PA and New Jersey — especially the Catholic schools. That’s a really big deal because the Catholic population is enormous in places like New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, etc.

With Rutgers hiring Greg Schiano last week, that really made recruiting New Jersey that much tougher for everyone else. Schiano is definitely going to improve RU’s New Jersey recruiting efforts, which will hurt schools like Boston College, Syracuse and Pitt, who also like to recruit that state.

Hafley is also an outstanding recruiter – particularly in his home state of New Jersey. That means Boston College will continue to be a factor in New Jersey. The still isn’t great news for Syracuse and Pitt, but it’s a smart hire by BC.

As long as Syracuse goes back to its old recruiting formula, the Orange will be fine. FYI, the old 'Cuse recruiting formula was recruit the best of who is in NY/NJ (that Cuse can get) and then head to Florida for all the other positions.
