RE: Turnovers
basically it’s the last three games, but I wouldn’t call them lucky ones. The defense has made plays on the ball and that is about talent, coaching, and skill.

I definitely give the D credit. But the offense has been bailed out big time.

The more relevant stat is turnover margin. We're in a 4-way tie for 4th with Oho St., Alabama and Oregon. It almost seems like winning the turnover battle might somehow be tied to success and winning games beyond mere luck...

RE: Turnovers
I prefer apple turnovers to cherry turnovers.

However, where Marshall, Houston and Tulsa's QB's sucked, we made UCF's QB suck when he's normally pretty good so the potential's there to do it again.

RE: Turnovers
Part of turnover margin is opportunistic defense and solid offense that helps to win games.

Part of it is when you lead games early, you can go conservative on offense and the opponent takes risks on defense.

It is never quite clear whether turnover margin leads to wins or wins lead to turnover margin.

There's some chicken or the egg there, but I think making turnovers are often a result of simply making mistakes. And part of what makes a good team good is that they make fewer mistakes than their opponent. So yeah, turnovers are a function of many factors including game situations but I think the making fewer mistakes aspect is the biggest.

RE: Turnovers
Frankly, this defense has had such a good run of turnovers that when our opponent enters the red zone I immediately start anticipating a pick or a blindside hit that knocks the ball loose. My only concern is I don't think we can depend upon that as a strategy to win close games, all the time. This UC offense has to earn its keep better than they represented on Saturday.

Heck, Nippert concession business might have even been more robust Saturday with a three touchdown lead in the second half so we could leave our seats for ten minutes without fear of losing the lead.
