"APP STATE’S CASE: App State moved to 9-1 after scoring 49 unanswered points in a road win at 6-3 Georgia State. The Mountaineers moved up one spot to 24th in the latest CFP rankings, but continue to trail G5 powers Memphis, Cincinnati, and Boise State. All App State can do is continue winning - a habit that’s already earned the Mountaineers three top 50 wins (based on ESPN FPI) and two P5 wins. Simply put, that’s a collective resume achievement that no other G5 Cotton Bowl contender has matched. "

To them it is. They won their superbowl and thats all that matters to them.

The least they could have done is finished off Minnesota so we could point to that.

Jerks.

The problem with that (and this is completely separate from what you are stating) if we had beaten Minnesota it would not have been considered a big win. They would not have gotten the attention they were getting the last few weeks. The only thing that could change that scenario is if they win the conference or possibly their division.

You're absolutely right. It would however increased the winning percentage of the Sun Belt as a whole over P5. And it would have meant the Belt beat 4 out of the 5 "P5 leagues".

It's the "what have you done for the belt" type of situation.

I completely agree in regards to helping the belt. I’m more pointing my finger at the hypocrisy of college football.

We need for Navy to beat SMU, but if App wins out, including a victory over a Troy team that continues to improve and a UL team continues to get votes in the polls, there is a solid argument that App stays ahead of SMU no matter what SMU does.

What separates the AAC from all other G5 conferences is that they legitimately have 4-5 very good teams that consistently compete at high level where as all others have 1 or none.
The SB really needs a UL, Troy, and/or another team to be as consistent as App with winning to build the reputation of a solid program. Even if it means App losses to that team every once in a while to build parody, it's better for the conference, App, and those top teams in the long run.

I don’t think the SBC having 2-3 good teams helps as we would only beat each other up and get no credit for it.

The Boise model works, one team dominates becomes a giant killer and then when other conference member beat them people notice.

If GS beats Minnesota I agree, Minnesota isn’t ranked until they beat Penn St.

So we build up App first (arguably they’re already there), then use App’s status to drag other teams up to their level

That's the MWC formula. AAC formula was to just beat average P5 programs and then get credit for beating each other, seems to work this year.

The key is to getting winnable P5 games and executing. The SBC did as good of a job as ever in that endeavor in 2019.

Or the conference disappears from the national attention like the MWC when Boise has a "down" year.

That's cause there's no other dominate team in the MWC. UCF is down compared to last several years, yet the AAC seems just as strong if not stronger.
