Not sure I'm really sold on State yet, but they have a chance to claim it by beating Troy this week.
Literally the only thing shaky about them is the Texas State game. Puts the question mark in for me.
I think they have great wins...but honestly the mauling at the hands of Western Michigan, to me, is more of a head scratcher than being edged in the road at Texas State.
In my humble opinion, both WMU and TXST games have a common factor: injured Dan Ellington.
At WMU, Ellington could neither step up to throw accurate balls nor make dynamic plays with his legs. Offense couldn't sustain drives. GSU went 3 and out repeatedly. Defense stayed on the field way too long. Our defensive front became tired and slow. Tackles were sloppy. Didn't help that WMU had a RB that ran legit 4.28 40s. He did whatever he wanted to us.
Not saying our defense doesn't deserve blame in the WMU game, but if our offense sustained long scoring drives, then WMU wouldn't have had so many possessions to score points and the game would've been closer..I'd imagine something like 42-38 type of affair.
In the TXST game, Ellington was still severely limited in his mobility and the coaches eliminated most of the designed QB option plays. Still, 50% healthy Ellington played well enough with his arms to beat TXST. Our kicker blew that game with 2 missed FGs. I wish we can have a rematch with TXST...alas, no such thing in football unless both GSU and TXST wins our respective divisions.
It's ok to say you took an ass beating at WMU. It happens. You were getting boatraced from the first play of the game. Four possessions in and WMU's offense was at 16 yards per play and the defense had only defended 17 plays....they weren't tired.
Sometimes you get a bad matchup.
Texas State is likely a result of injuries and also bad game management.
If your team is only as good as one player, then ya'll will have serious issues if he's injured and even more once he's gone.

And I don't blame you one bit. All I'm doing is explaining my reservations about having Georgia State at #3.

Will worry about that AFTER 11/30.
