New LED Lighting at Alabama Looks Terrible
Watching the Tennessee @ Bama game, and I am not a fan of the new LED lighting in the stadium. It makes everything look washed out, and messes up the colors. I hope this does not become a trend in college football.

What do y'all think?

Very cold whites so everything has that sickly "hospital" look to it.

I'm not a fan of it.

But I wonder if the lights look good in person and how much could be corrected with the white balance on TV.

The energy and money savings look great! They can experiment with the colors using filter lenses.

That's only because you are the best reverse barometer since Dustin Hoffman played "Little Big Man."

It looked wholly unnatural in High Definition. In fact so much so that I thought my color settings were going haywire.

One more reason to have more daylight games!

From that perspective yes. But from the athletes perspective, more night games until temperatures drop would be preferred. Fans who go to the games seem to prefer it that way also.

A lot of sports venues are switching, or have already switch to LED lighting. It is an established technology. I can't imagine why the system at Bama would be so far off. Did it appear off on all the views? I'm wondering if it was something the broadcaster did or didn't do??

It's not about politics. It's about saving 75% on your energy bill. The maintenance savings is enormous for systems like this. It isn't easy or cheap to change bulbs at stadiums. Plus, some companies will put the system in at zero cost. You pay for it based on a percentage of energy savings.

They're also more functional. If you need to shut them off or for some reason lose power then it doesn't take forever to bring them back up. Thus the ability to create a light show.

I wasn't in the stadium, but I liked it. Especially the footage I saw of the band taking the field with one of the light sequences. I thought the whole thing was pretty cool.
