A good programmer can write an algorithm for that in less time than it takes Aresco to explain what he wants.

This is being done at the Presidential level so blame them.

Doesn't the scheduling itself come out of the Conference office?

The Universities Select their OOC opponents, AAC sets Conference schedule, and ESPN/CBSSN select time/Network?

Who do you want then?

They offer a good market, good budget, improving facilities, fits the conference blueprint, history with teams. Both sports are competitive.

They have been very competitive under Bill Clark, and I don't think he wants to leave that program.

I’d rather not take anyone. No one in their market cares about them and their history with us isn’t great. If bill Clark leaves then what? For years no one showed up to their football games, it was embarrassing and a shame. It wasn’t till they shut it down that anyone did anything. It’s not like the BOT was barring people from attending. Hard pass.

what happened when Fuente left? He built a foundation for the next guy to win with...Norvell has now moved the bar higher with a Liberty Bowl appearance.

Bill Clark has laid a strong foundation for the next coach. That coach will get a program that plays in a new downtown stadium that's closer than Legion Field (and in a better part of town)...He'll get a program with a covered practice field plus new support facilities with offices/locker rooms/meeting rooms/weight equipment/etc...He'll get a program that knows how to win and is accustomed to winning.

Not a good comparison, Memphis was a good football school before fuente (before you hired that terrible AD).

the three seasons before Fuente Memphis went 2-10 (Tommy West), 1-11 (Larry Porter), 2-10 (Larry Porter)

we were at almost rock bottom when Fuente arrived.

Boise would be my number one. Even though they are way out of our footprint it would be worth it. Of course it would be football only just because of the travel nightmare for other sports that would create. I just don’t think they would be interested.

BYU would be my second choice. Not because I like them. I actually dislike them quite a bit. The main reason is name recognition. Once again this would probably be football only and still no reason to add another basketball only school. If the past is any indication, then they are not interested.

Appy State is my third choice. Ever since they beat Michigan they seem to be on a trajectory upwards. They fit well into the current AAC footprint and could easily join for all sports. My guess is they would be interested.

After that it is a tossup for me. Georgia St. is intriguing and fits into our footprint and major metro area layout that seems to be the current blueprint. Guessing they also would be interested.

I seen Buffalo suggested, but I don’t think they bring enough to the table to justify having to travel there. Unlike Boise which does, I just think this is a chance for the league to shrink our footprint a bit. Don’t get me wrong I think Buffalo is a viable choice I just don’t like it.

The AAC cannot stay at 11, if it does there is a good probability that it will get "ripped" apart if/when the Big XII "Blows up".

If Air Force (The last "National Brand") does not come in with VCU then there are only 3/4? possibilities

1. Buffalo (Every argument has been made for them, all valid)
2. Georgia State (Potential, Enrollment, Media market)
3. Florida International (Potential, Enrollment, Media market)
4A. UMass (Buffalo Light with a longer history and a much smaller University System)
4B. ODU (Potential, Enrollment, Media market) - Not as much as GSU or FIU

At 12 the AAC has a legitimate chance to get to 14 members like the other "Major" Conference by taking top 2 Big XII leftovers, if any.

There are rumblings out West the 2 Arizona schools are less than thrilled in the PAC and want to join the B12. If that is true that throws the whole destruction of the B12 out.

The Big 12 is perfect for both Texas and Oklahoma. Good geography. Good rivals. Probably the easiest path to the CFP in college football. I have never bought into the idea that Texas would leave when the GOR expires. I think they will leverage the situation to get some concessions from the other members---but I dont think they will leave.

I think the AAC is likley to be pretty stable going forward simply because the teams have nowhere else to go.

You still have to hire the right guy. In 2012 San Jose State went 11-2 and then lost the coach that build the team up. SJSU has had one .500 or better season since. Western Michigan hasnt exactly set the world on fire since losing "Row the Boat" PJ Fleck. Houston has slumped since Herman left. USF still looking for the right fit after losing Taggert.

Continued success is not an automatic. Every hire is a new independent roll of the dice.

None of that, not a single word in the post, was typed by me. Somebody screwed up the attributions (which poster typed what) when re-quoting the previous posts. Somebody else typed ALL of that, so stop asking me to defend it, b/c I never posted it, lol.

Look above. It's screwed up again in this post. "Those cited quotes are wrongly attributed" was MY post, but it is attributed to you. Get it now?

Thanks for clarifying. I thought you meant that there was some misattribution of the content referred to in the post.

Now that I know what the problem is, I will start editing the posts.

Apologies for the glitch. I'm still relatively new on this message board.

I'm not upset. I was simply trying to explain that I'm not the one to answer his questions, b/c I didn't say any of that.

I agree 100%

I'm just saying the next UAB coach will inherit a FAR better program than Bill Clark was handed...

If the Big XII gets the Arizona twins whats to keep the Big XII from getting Colorado back along with Utah and turning the PAC-12 into the PAC-8...

Guess the PAC can add SDSU and Team-X to get to 10 to hold a CCG.

If you don't "see the need" for a basketball only option, you simply don't care about the basketball side of the conference. Plain and simple. Where the conference lost value was in UConn basketball. Shedding their football was a massive plus, losing their hoops wasn't.

You can add a better program by bringing in VCU. It's a win-win-win. UConn gets to play in the Catholic League, football metrics improve, basketball metrics improve and we add more NCAA Tournament credits and a better fan base and atmosphere in VCU. Everyone gets what they want.

Right on target & straight to the point!

The AAC as a whole, and ESPN will suffer a significantly reduced viewership by the loss of the UConn basketball media market, which includes much of New England, NY/NYC and NJ, with an audience across much of the nation.

For the AAC to shrink to 11 teams, just when the conference is moving closer to P6 status, it will not help matters to cut the AAC's national media market by 8%, which would result in a comparable reduction in the broadcasting "power" of the conference.

Importantly, the two smallest P5 conferences (mean: $32 million/yr) earned approximately $10 million less per year, on average, than did the 3 largest conferences with 14+ members (mean: $43 million/yr).

While the # of members was not the only determinant of media income, due to a statistical outlier, the correlation between # of members and media income is so strong that, on the whole, the # of conference members was one of the strongest predictors of annual media income.

Moreover, neither the AAC nor ESPN would lose any $$ or anything else of value by replacing UConn with a more competitive school in both sports.

============================================

Another argument for replacing UConn in both sports is that it allows for balanced divisions in all sports.

This is of importance because higher travel costs in a divisionless AAC will strip each AAC school of 1/6th to 1/7th of their net income.

Strong evidence for this is the fact that one of UConn's reasons for leaving the conference was the high travel costs in the AAC, which took a huge chunk out of their net income.

you're the only logical option from a geographical perspective, but clearly not ready. you got 2 seasons to get your ish together.
