That’s good. Hopefully it will hold out. Looking forward to a good injury free game.

South vs. Troy on ESPN2 @ 8pm - 10/16 pulled in 448k viewers!

That puts them more viewers than:

UCLA vs. Stanford on ESPN - 10/17 @ 9pm (445k viewers)
IaSt vs. TTU on FS1 - 10/19 @ Noon (343k viewers)
Colorado vs. Wash St on ESPNU - 10/19 @ 7pm (271k viewers)
Tulane vs Memphis on ESPN2 - 10/19 @ 7pm (192k viewers)

It’s about average

Looking at the last few years ratings it seems to be higher than comparable games last year that had teams from SBC/AAC/MAC/MWC and a few P5 match ups.

I'm sure ESPN noticed the uptick in viewers as well.

Sun Belt is getting a lot of eyeballs this season. The ESPN deal has been sweet.

I'd have to think these viewer numbers will help with TV negotiations down the line. Pulling in higher numbers than some AAC games and P5 games goes along way.

Yes, but for an ESPN2 game, the numbers are about average. We've certainly had worse and we've certainly had better.

Wednesday on ESPN2 will always draw more viewers than Thursday on ESPNU.

The Wednesday ESPN2 games, as annoying as they probably are for the home team fans that want to attend in person, are great for TV viewership.

The Sun Belt is drawing more viewers on the Wednesday night games on ESPN2 than some games on Saturday on ESPN2 or Thursday on ESPN featuring AAC and P5 teams.

That's why the current media deal is worthwhile

And the attendance hasn't been killed by the midweek games either.

Thursday Oct 3 - GaSo @ USA - 20,013

Thursday Oct 10 - ULM @ TxSt - 16,783
Wednesday Oct 15 - USA @ Troy - 23,182
Thursday Oct 16 - UL @ ArkSt - 19,176

Average week night game attendance: 20,033

For more perspective, 448k watched a 1-5 South Alabama team play a 2-3 Troy team.

I’d would rather play on Saturday when the donors who support the program can attend

I think it's all about moderation. The MAC overdoes it with every single November conference game on weeknights. But having one or at worst two games a year per team on weeknights is good for exposure, while having the remaining ten games a year on Saturdays when attendance can be maximized.

My belief is that as long as no one has more than three weeknight home games over a rolling two year period and no more than two in any given season, it's a good a deal.

That seems almost like what it is, which is good. Having a CCG at noon on ESPN on championship Saturday is important too. Better than Friday night and/or CBSSN for sure.
