AAC basketball high major? Of course.
Bearcat fans all know this, but it seems to me this article at ESPN evaluating the mid-major group draws the line of separation. This article, follows previews of the Pac 12, American and new Big East (high majors of course).

It's certainly in the best interest of ESPN for viewership to position the American this way. It's just frustrating to see other media and fans attach the "P5" football designation to basketball which is a completely inappropriate application of the term.

That's the beauty of NCAA DI BB...you can prove them wrong...by penetrating in the tourney.

The designations are meaningless at that point...it's just who the best team happens to be.

I couldn't agree more. UC has had plenty of good opportunities to advance in recent years, despite the conference situation. Which, for basketball, is really not so bad.

ECU and Tulane are the only schools holding AAC basketball back from 100% consensus non-negotiable high-major status, and hopefully we see significant improvement from both programs over the next few years to eliminate that present outlier.

Hopefully the league's national perception doesn't change too much once UConn leaves as well.

Obviously the perception of the Big East seems to be much higher. A 16 loss XU team who is predicted to finish 3rd in the BE is ranked #19 in the AP. The predicted AAC 2nd and 3rd place teams are ranked 37th and 38th.

I think Houston is undervalued. I actually like this uc team a lot too but get that people are cautious after a coaching change.

I see the voters exercised caution with UCLA's coaching change too.

That's why the NBE/C7/CYO paid through the nose for the "Big East" name.

They know that most media types are numbskull morons that will just look at the name and blindly rate them better than the conference that is actually the better on-court performer.

How else do you rate Zavier so much higher than what Memphis is bringing to the table? Did I miss where Zavier signed Lebron James?
