One issue is that there isnt an NCAAPA to negotiate licensing contracts with entities like EA Sports. The other issue is the potential with transfer portal *******. Imagine Levar Ball type of dad threatening to transfer his kid because Memphis car dealerships pay more than Austin ones..

Things that were supposed to end college football...
-Desegregation
-Television
-The Miami Hurricanes
-Conference Realignment
-BCS
-The Playoffs
-Uptempo Offense
-Conference Championships
-Forward passing
-The Portal
-The Graduate Transfer Rule
-Overtime
-Instant Replay

I would bet you can add this to the list of things that should end college football... but won't.

Why not? It's money athletes get from businesses fro endorsement deals. I don't see how that's not taxable income.

None (or at least almost none) blur the lines between amateur athletics and semi-pro athletics.

He's not talking about taxing the money received from the athletes' names, rather their athletic scholarship income.

If any ULL players get a cut, maybe they can afford to donate to the program.

Maybe I’m not clear on the change. It sounds like this will allow college athletes to make a profit for being a good athlete. Am I missing something? That sounds like pro football.
Owning your name and image is not the same as being paid a salary directly to play football. Additionally you will find this will affect an ifenetesibly small amount of athletes.

That’s literally exactly the problem.
But there is no legal basis to prevent someone from owning their name and image for monetary purposes.
.
The fact that people's image and name may differ in a marketing sense ...well thats just western capitalism.

However, nobody is going to get rich off this.

What if they made it that only businesses who have a corporate office within 100 miles of the school or an athlete's home town could advertise?

What if, to gain access as an approved advertiser they also had to donate to the school.

What if to sign a deal with a male athlete you also had to advertise with a female athlete. Kinda like ticket bundles. You want Florida State tickets you also have to buy Wofford tickets.

Some people are going to get very rich off of this. Some players and a lot of agents.

Sounds like the old SMU . . the best team money can buy.

yes, back to the days of the free trans-ams..except now the player can just use the new cash he gets and buy whatever he wants.

There will be some oversight for this. Sort of like there is now. Players can work for places but not be paid above the market rate for their service. I'd like to think Boosters will likely remain as uninvolved as their supposed to have been before.

Unless Joe Gibbs becomes a big booster for App....

Just kidding...

this could be good.

The Sun Belt will get more exposure as being the better of the G5 conferences ahead of the MAC. Part of what plays into the perception of schools is visibility and the ratings of Sun Belt schools being higher than that of those two conferences should help drive that point home. Unless NCAA Football decides just to do a P5 version...which wouldn't surprise me.
