JJ lacked the athleticism to be a great defender at this level. As someone else mentioned, the PG for Houston that looks like John Legend absolutely abused him this season. Both he and Cane completely lacked the ability to switch that the rest of the defense was built upon. I never understood why Mick couldn't find point guards above 6'0".

I wonder how Jeremiah Davenport plays D at this level. Moeller prides themselves on it and he is lanky as hell.

All these questions about defense, but I think it will be a given that we'll take a hit defensively, while expecting an uptick in scoring production. In other words, we'll go from the 55-53 rock fights to winning 79-77.

I mean, he found Ge'Lawn Guyn and Jeremiah Davis. They were just giant blackholes offensively at this level and were passed over by guys like Troy Caupain and Kevin Johnson (also over 6'0").

The guy who played the most games for him at point was 6'4 and was playing on a two way deal last year.

Both were odd choices for Cronin's system. If you're going to recruit a sub 6 ft guard they need to be elite athletes and be crafty at the rim. You don't learn how to finish at this level. Devan Downey comes to mind, he knew how to finish at the rim. JJ wasn't fast and couldn't finish in traffic. He served a couple roles as far as reliable ball handler and spot up shooter as a senior and was a good team defender as long as the other team didn't have quick guards.

Cane was skinny and had enough length to be a decent defender but he just didn't show consistent enough focus and would get lost at times.

Fifth Question: Coach, how do you like nobody noticing basketball season has started until after the Cotton Bowl?

Jenifer was a mixed bag on defense. Could be tenacious on the ball, but teams could shoot over him and the zone did him no favors in that regard.

You're right. I forgot about Troy--for some reason he never really seemed 6'4". Either way, I'm more referring to the super lanky guard that you see in the NBA nowadays.
