saw that the MWC basketball tourney is going to be a week earlier this season than they normally have had. Hadn't heard that before.

RE: MWC Basketball
Explanation:
Quote:The decision to bring the tournament forward by one week in 2020 was influenced in large part by the CONEXPO-CON/AGG International Construction Trade Show, which will be held March 10-14, 2020 in Las Vegas. The international trade show brings more than 125,000 construction industry professionals to the city and dramatically impacts the availability and price of hotel rooms, airline tickets and rental cars.
With respect to the 2020 MW Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships, the MW accepted formal expressions of interest from other cities interested in hosting the tournament – notably, San Diego and Phoenix – but has decided to remain at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. No decision has been made regarding future sites for the tournament beyond 2020.

Is the construction trade-show always in Vegas?
I remember when I was a kid, the Sun Belt tournament was (at least in some years) earlier than most other league-tournaments. Not really sure why.

WAC and WCC also hold their tournaments there. WCC is March 5-10 at Orleans Arena. WAC is also usually in Orleans.

Once every three years.
Some MWC basketball coaches were unhappy in 2017 when their tournament was the same week as the trade show. I assume the conflict involves specific hotels that teams prefer that are near the arena. The T&M Center is about 2 miles east of the strip, and the convention center is nearby. The arenas for the Pac-12 and WAC tournaments (which will be at the same time as that convention) are both west of the strip. Don't know if that makes much difference, but apparently the MWC thinks it does.

If Wyoming put a decent team on the floor, it might win a game or 2. I don’t see Utah State complaining.
