#17 Arizona State lost to #13 Utah. Wonder if we will move ahead of them, or Michigan (if PSU finishes them)?

Would be nice to move into the top 20, but I’m not going to count on it. Especially after a relatively uninspired performance today at home against Tulsa.

I'm not buying any hype that has this Bearcat team ranked.

i doubt voters are going to look into how poorly we played. They'll see Cincy got the W and will bump them up. AZ and Michigan losing will drop them outside of top 20 maybe even top 25. SMU, Cincy, TX, Utah etc will all move up. i imagine that Wisky will drop into the top 15 and psu will take their spot at #6. The only thing worth watching at this point is whether BYU can pull off the upset. i get that you may be down on Cincy right now but they are definitely worthy of being ranked. Watching some of the other top 25 teams i think we would compete with anyone outside of the top six: osu, OU, Clemson, Bama, LSU, GA (That is my top 6, not the AP/Coaches poll).

Actually they are almost equal this year coming into this week's games based upon the Massey ratings: Marshall is 94th, Miami is 99th.

Yeah, they have a chance at a better season this year. My point was playing a "rival" every year that has struggled in wins over the past two decades doesn't help our SOS. Since the Ben Roth year of 2003 when Miami won 13 games, they've only won double digits once since then - 10 wins in 2010. Since 2010 the best they've done is 6 wins [twice] and the remaining seasons they've won 5 or less games.

Part of what I'm saying though is that's the nature of the beast, especially in the MAC, but in reality in just about every conference (heck just look at our conference): nearly everybody eventually goes up, nearly everybody eventually goes down and it can change direction very quickly. Much quicker than schedules can be completed and changed. We're hardly the only team that faces regular matchups that don't look as good when they happen as they looked when they were scheduled. Bottom line is even if you don't value the history with Miami, who do you replace it with?

I guess it would be nice if there was a team within an hour, or even a few hours driving distance (for the convenience of players and fans for road games not to mention our budgets) that was pretty good every year so as to help, or at least not hurt, our SOS. But of course, we don't really want them to be so good that they are going to beat us regularly - at least not if we want to play in NY6 games. And of course they have to actually want to play us, a G5 with a stadium that is actually getting known nationally for its difficulty to play in as a visitor for big games. Got any candidates that fit the bill? Me neither.

Bottom line is the Miami series is about as good as it could realistically get for us. We simply can't afford buy games with anyone who would go for them exclusively for our benefit. Yes it probably didn't much help us when they were/are way down for a long stretch, but we were actually pretty down 3 years ago too. I mean in hindsight, how many years out of the last 20 was our SOS such a big deal that one game really hurt us? Miami's rise has been slower, but they're basically a reasonably respectable very nearby G5 opponent at this point (with some room to grow) and I think that's realistically about all we can ask for.

Does the rivalry excite you? It doesn't for me. Never has. Again, I said it sucks. Didn't say to replace them. Just is...

It's not UC/XU hoops, but heck some people don't like that. I like it fine for what it is. I guess I don't get the frequent complaints combined with zero ideas on how to realistically create something better.

The kissing coach lives to fight another day.

We were a blown TX FG away from potentially getting into the top 15.

Everyone in the top 15 held serve except Wisky so i reckon psu takes their spot, FL leap frogs ND who stays at #8. GA, AU, Utah and OR bump up one, TX takes BSUs spot at #14, Wisky drops to #15, and Baylor, SMU, Minny and Cincy move up from #16 on landing Cincy at #19.

This was wishful thinking upon reflection.

Boyzee St. will probably move up three spots since, you know, BYU is a P5 level program and they made a comeback to, you know, ALMOST win.

Nice to see Boise State drop one as some of us expected they would. Opens up an opportunity for us to get the NY6 bowl game and definitely gives the American a great snot at earning the invite.

Just need to keep winning and avoid a letdown while improving over the next couple of weeks.

Would love to see Memphis beat SMU. We have a chance to take out Memphis ourselves, which if SMU has a league loss should put the conference championship game at Nippert if we can win out.

SMOO has three road games in their final 5. They play at Houston Thursday night. That could be interesting. They also travel to 5-1 [3-1] Navy on Nov 23rd. Not a given by any means especially if the weather is colder with some rain.

I want UC to have the east division, and home field wrapped up before the Memphis game. We need App State to lose but I think the Boise State to BYU might fundamentally eliminate them based on thier overall schedule. (They probably lose to Utah State as well).

I posted this in another thread a few weeks back but here are Cincinnati's, Temple's, and UCF's remaining schedules:

Cincinnati 6-1 [3-0]
@ ECU 3-4 [0-3]
UGone 1-6 [0-4]
@ USF 3-4 [1-2]
Temple 5-2 [2-1]
@ Memphis 6-1 [2-1]

Temple 5-2 [2-1]
UCF 5-2 [2-1]
@ USF 3-4 [1-2]
Tulane 5-2 [2-1]
@ Cincinnati 6-1 [3-0]
UGone 1-6 [0-4]

UCF 5-2 [2-1]
@ Temple 5-2 [2-1]
Houston 3-4 [1-2]
@ Tulsa 2-5 [0-3]
@ Tulane 5-2 [2-1]
USF 3-4 [1-2]

Obviously, we control our own destiny and I don't want to rely on what anyone else does. That UCF at Temple game will be interesting in terms of the standings in the East. UCF could very well win out. Nice that we can sit back for a week stress free and let it unfold...
