Disagree. That's withholding 3.5 hours of TV brand advertising for member school(s) during the holiday season. Not to mention inviting a recruiting disadvantage against peer G5 schools who would use that against us ("Don't go to Kent State where their conference won't let them go to Boca Raton or Nassau if they win six games").

I mean I do share your sentiment behind it. If WMU loses their last two games and goes 6-6, I'd rather we just call it a season and stay home. But big picture, we gotta go...

The MAC has contracts to play, so its not really an option I dont think.

I like the bowl season, and it gives the teams and fans one more game to get excited about. I disagree when folks say there are too many bowls. I have a rooting interest in every game. Always root for the G5 against the P5.

Despite there not being any OFFICIAL rules, you'd need something Real special to expect them to pick a 6-6 MAC team over a 7-5 MAC team.

OR in the last-running bowls past tie-ins when both conferences have their # of "promised" teams met already going to bowls -- to pick 2 Sun Belt 6-6s over 2 remaining MAC 7-5s.

Over .500 carries weight. Basically, you need a good reason to pick the 6-6 over a 7-5 when within the same conference, or between conferences when there's no tie-in situation (or tie-in promises for X amt of teams for both conferences already met).

I think a lot of it will come down to how many bowl-eligible teams did you beat -- where P5s carry more weight. And obviously if it comes down to a couple teams, who beat who if they're roughly equal otherwise.

My point was the previous poster mentioned that WMU "has a tiebreaker" over other 6-6 teams for a bowl. There is no "tiebreaker" to determine who goes to a bowl and who stays home, or even which bowl a team goes to. Ultimately the bowls do the lobbying for which teams they want to invite, and there is some backroom horse trading going on, but there is certainly no objective order of selection when teams have the same record as the poster implied, as if it's the process of determining who plays in the MACC or something. Again, this is all likely a moot point as there are more bowls than ever this year, and they'll likely have a hard time filling all the slots with bowl eligible teams, so if you're 6-6 you're pretty much assured of going SOMEWHERE.

It's a program thing. For BSU or Miami or Kent or Akron a bowl game at 6-6 invigorates your program. For Toledo it loses money because the expectation is much higher. No one will travel to a bowl game for Toledo fans if we are 7-5. We didn't go in 2013 for that reason, (I think). That year we won a ton of good games. But for UB it was a program feat and they were delighted to go to Idaho.

And it gives several more weeks of practice that the teams would not otherwise have. Look as one of the teams that has never won a bowl game I want a win badly but even a loss is worth the extra practice.

Just not Idaho, please no to Idaho

Definitely. I have no problem w/ every 7-5 team making it. You build fan-bases by giving teams a post-season.

Even 6-6 teams most likely had a few good wins.

Plus, the people who say there are too many bowls are generally saying 'there's too many G5 bowl games.'

Would it be played at the Preparation H Arena from BASEketball?

There's not any more bowls today than last year. And the way I calculated it -- there certainly can be a lack of bowls. Last year was an example and Miami-OH didn't go to one @6-6, as well as a Sun Belt team, if I'm correct.

Some years you'll have a plethora of 6-6 teams. P5 6-6 teams will always go. G5 6-6 teams may be short-changed. IMO, you have to assume every year there's likely going to be 2-3 teams @6-6 left out. I think if you have a P5 win, and only played 1 D1AA (unlike some Independents), you're usually going to be safe at 6-6.

The other point is that it is unlikely in most years a 6 - 6 MAC team will go bowling so in a sense the discussion is moot or usually moot.

My rule of thumb: P5 needs 6 - 6 or better. G5 needs 7 - 5 or better. This is for at-large consideration where a conference is not filling a contracted bowl slot.
