Honest question, I have seen lots of anti-Arkansas State posts from App for the last several years. Why do you guys hate us?

I like stAte. I think your coach is a quality dude, and your color scheme is badass. But, if I'm not mistaken, your fans looked down on us the most when App/Southern moved up. May have some lingering effect

Maybe because until joining the Sun Belt ASU meant Appalachian State University. Now we have to use App State or call you stAte - or something like that. I used to say ASU all the time when referring to Appalachian. Now I mostly say App State - I guess for this reason.

OP: And, ... what does it mean when you say 'eliminated'? I can't recall lately what that is like 05-stirthepot

Me thinks that you are one strange South Alabama fan. I hope we upset App. State and throw a wrench in their plans. Do I think it'll happen? Not likely, but in football, nothing is impossible.

Likewise, we were ASU for as long as I could remember. After you guys came into the league we pushed more for AState, stAte, or Red Wolves. It didn't bother me much though because I got tired of people outside of the region hearing or Googling ASU and immediately thinking Arizona State. It's probably something we should have changed long ago.

I’m gonna to have to say App State but for a different reason then most people, I was in 6th grade and it was the first football game I actually remember going to, I had been to one or two Cajuns game before and had been to a hundred games to the east on Lafayette (LSWho) because that is where my dad went to college and had season tickets. But when I first started to actually understand what was happening on the field was when App state was playing in Baton Rouge in 2005.

I remember that one well. That was a 14-0 game heading into the 4th quarter. We played the Tigers really hard despite the final score. We were all really proud.

24-0 isn't too bad at all for an FCS team playing #6 LSU. If I recall, we held LSU to fewer points than most of the other SEC teams that year. https://www.espn.com/college-football/bo...=253090099

Branding! We go by A-State (officially) as a way to separate ourselves from the ASU in Arizona (Appalachia isn't even a state), since that's the more nationally relevant one. Similar to how the old Big 8 schools flip their initialisms (University of Kansas going by KU instead of UK to be distinct from Kentucky).

I find that people tend to use still use ASU for Arkansas State on the local level, but on a national level you need something different. It could be worse, Ohio State is often referred to by national media as just Ohio, despite there being an entirely different school that goes by Ohio that plays D1-FBS ball.

Also, to answer the question... I don't know, like ULM or somebody.

When we entered the conference with App a few years ago I wanted App to do well along with my eagles. I grew tired before we ever played a conference game from many members of this board telling us both how we couldn’t compete for several years coming out of FCS. Now that we have proven that theory is wrong, I’m back to anyone but App.

I know homecoming is App State. We have a messed up schedule for this month with 2 midweek games, and stuck with App State to be our homecoming game. App State is a very good team and will probably be the best team we play our year. I hope we don't have a Memphis or a UAB like game. Jags had several games slipped away vs Nebraska and Georgia Southern. Gotta to find a way to get more consistent on offense so we could win some of the upcoming games. Need a good signing class to build on. I want to see something more than a new stadium to look forward to for next season.

Honestly?
I can't speak for other App fans. But new into the league, I had very little knowledge of most Sunbelt teams. There were a large amount of stAte fans that I interacted with, on here and other social media sites, that came across as arrogant, cocky, and just plain annoying. Kinda got the feeling of the Napoleon complex. Now I can't say that right now, but part of me believes that conference opponents have had a part in knocking them down a notch. So I prefer it to stay that way. No offense stAte fans ...

I think the general answer is, whatever is in the best interest of the conference. this year in particular its for App St. to go undefeated and possibly get the NY6 bowl, and for Louisiana to run the table the rest of the way and possibly have 2 ranked teams at the end of the year.

Which fanbases were really against Ga. Southern and App moving into the Sun Belt? I honestly don't remember. And if schools were against us moving in, who the heck did they want instead? If I remember correctly, North Texas, FIU, MTSU, and FAU were all leaving so it's not like the league didn't need replacements.

ULL’s Hud was against us, fitting App was his last game there after going 0-4 vs the Mountaineers.

That last one was a fun one. My brother's friend was the last remaining UL fan in the stands by the end of the 3rd quarter. I invited him to come sit with us in section 104 or 105 and he proceeded to talk trash to everyone around us. I believe it was 49-7 at that point. I don't think anyone talked trash back because they were simply confused.
