RE: 2019 MAC Football Pick 'Em -- Week 7
Bold = WINNER, Underline = Beating the Spread
Miami @ Western Michigan -12.5
*Last week I won $400 on a $500 bet Against WMU (insurance in case WMU only lost by 1). This game is the only game I was thinking of betting on. The spread dropped by a point in favor of Miami, which is very understandable. If I had to bet, I'd bet against WMU on the point spread -- although Miami's QB is bad and turnovers could make WMU do well. That said, the better chances are WMU wins in a dog-fight after their disappointing loss to Toledo. A real test for Tim Lester's crew at WMU, to see how they respond. Miami's still PO'd about last year's "steal" that WMU got -- and they got a bit of confidence winning last week. Wouldn't be the most surprising upset if Miami actually won.
Toledo @ Bowling Green -26
*The 2nd-biggest rivalry in the MAC. BGSU sucks REALLY REALLY bad this year. And Toledo is slated to win the MAC. It's at BGSU though, and BGSU has nothing to lose, and it's about the only remaining game, given how they are, to be fired up for. Toledo is coming off a WMU win so they aren't looking to treat BGSU like a ragdoll as much as they could. BGSU fights thru to try and be spoilers, but come up 24 pts short after challenging them for a quarter. Although I won't be shocked by any means if Toledo blows them out by 35-40, given that BGSU sucks against the spread this year too.
Ball State @ Eastern Michigan -1.5
*The fighting EMUs rebound against a now-feisty BSU team. Playing in the prison yard in Ypsi, EMU's HC fires up his team to step the hell up, after being bent over and hollowed out in Mt Not-so-Pleasant. A tough game, but EMU ends up winning by a FG. The small crowd is happy and someone with a blow horn projects an "Emooooo! Emoooo!" sound of victory in the end.
New Mexico State @ Central Michigan -10
*New Mexico State actually isn't quite as bad as you'd think. Tough as heck schedule, and their last two games, they played Fresno & Liberty reasonably tough. Better than you'd expect a sub-par MAC team to do. But they have to travel all the way to Mt Pleasant. CMU is on their way up -- but are challenged by New Mexico State. CMU's QB is suspended due to roid use, so that hurts them a lot (but is challenged). CMU ends up pulling it out by a FG.
Kent State -14.5 @ Akron
*If Kent State can beat BGSU by 42, what do you think they'll do to Akron? Oh, it's on the road. Well, Akron's already been established as REALLY BAD already. Kent State unleashes after their Wisconsin thumping to win by 24-28, despite Akron trying to smell a victory within their solar system.
Northern Illinois @ Ohio -6.5
*NIU has been disappointing. The tough OOC schedule + new coach has them in the least optimal position, given they lost to Testicle Tech last week. Now on the road to Solich's team. Good news for NIU is that Ohio isn't a dominating team -- not as tough as last year. NIU can win this game, and I would NOT want to bet on this. But if I had to, given the factors involved, NIU loses by 7-10 pts.
