The Nip at night sure is a thing of beauty when folks come out and bring the 12th man energy. Would love to play Temple at night come November...

I believe Cooper red shirted last season; could only 4 games this year allow him to apply for an injury waiver and be allowed 6 years(play 4 more seasons)?

I would think he would at least have a shot at a medical hardship redshirt considering he was hurt during the 5th game, but when it comes to the NCAA who knows really.

Only if his first redshirt was not elective.

Just to add on to BearcatMan's post - you have 5 years to use your 4 years of eligibility (I'm sure everybody has heard that). If you choose to redshirt one year (elective as BearcatMan's post said), even if you get injured another year, you only have those 5 years to use your eligibility because you chose to use the redshirt year for a non-injury purpose. If you get injured and take your redshirt because of that injury and then get injured again causing you to miss another year, players are often granted the 6th year of eligibility.

Similarly, players who transfer can use the sit out year as a redshirt year, if they haven't already elected to use their redshirt. If they transfer and have used their redshirt for injury purposes, they can apply for a 6th year. If they their elected to use their redshirt, they lose the year.

Maybe I'm off but I'd add one more thing. My impression is that with this set-up many schools have gotten pretty good at (oh, what's the best word to use here?), let's say "highlighting" injuries so that they can get a medical rather than elective redshirt.

Yea, that’s where the ambiguity comes in. Would we even know the reason for a Redshirt?

No, but they would need to petition the NCAA in order to get a Medical Hardship Waiver...and if the redshirt he took last year was not due to injury his case is dead in the water. I know it was a while ago, but look at Ben Mauk's case. Dude actually had medical documentation from that year, but there was no reference in the original redshirt documents made to him being injured in his first year at Wake, so he was unable to get the additional year (which ended up being 2008 when Tony Pike became a folk hero).

That INT was a gift since the UCF wideout slipped in his route but still - what an accomplishment after how UCF has been scoring in mega-droves all season. No one talks enough about Perry Young IMO. He is a fast backer in space and compliments very well with Bryan Wright.

I'm glad I no longer have to yell at Carter Jacobs. Seemed like a really nice young man who was very proud to play for the cats, but phew.... he was always out of position or getting beat deep.

Thanks for sharing. I would hope that if there are any injuries during a Redshirt year then the staff would take advantage of documenting it as a Medical reason, but I’m not sure how strict the NCAA is on that. In the end, I’m sure Fick and Co are going to do what’s best for the kids and the team.

Carter deservedly takes a lot of heat but honestly there were other guys that played defense to just occupy space. It didn't help matters that we had a lazy head coach that employed the following dee coordinators:

Art Kaufman 2013
Robert Prutny/Hank Hughes 2014
Robert Prunty/Steve Clinkscale 2015
Robert Prunty 2016

RE: UCF Aftermath: Let's Keep This Thing Rollin'
We all need to take a deep breath and remember that this team is still kind young. We have a handful of seniors/grads. Most of the consistent, high flying teams have their 2 deep full of 3rd, 4th and 5th year players. We are kind of light there.

When your team is young, it is tough to have consistency. Not impossible, but be careful expecting it. Our biggest obstacle this week might not be Houston, but ourselves.

The good news is that we have a lot of guys in their 2nd year of starting or getting a lot of playing time, and many of them should be back for 2 or 3 more years. I see good things ahead.

Breathe easy, band dude.

Most of our guys have been around the block a time or two. I'm confident that they pretty much know what they're doing.

After Fickell's initial year, we're 15 and 3, including 9 and 0 at home. Two of the three losses were to top 10 teams on the road. That's consistency. Go Cats!

Dudes. Remember at the beginning of the season we were lamenting the tough conference schedule? My, my how things change. I've said before that we caught a break not playing SMU or Tulane and we get a down Houston on the road. Look at Temple's remaining schedule. BRUTAL stretch of games. That's why our win over UCF was absolutely huuuge.

Cincinnati [4-1]
@ Houston [2-3]
Tulsa [2-3]
@ ECU [3-3]
UGone [1-4]
@ USF [2-3]
Temple [4-1]
@ Memphis [5-0]

Temple [4-1]
Memphis [5-0]
@ SMU [6-0]
UCF [4-2]
@ USF [2-3]
Tulane [4-1]
@ Cincinnati [4-1]
UGone [1-4]

UCF [4-2]
ECU [3-3]
@ Temple [4-1]

Yep, Temple has 3 ranked teams and Ucf. Don't remember a schedule like that when we were in the old Big East. Not to mention Tulane is very good.
