RE: Game Day: @CMU
This game just proves that this team is not capable of overlooking anyone and bringing less than their A game. Remember that this team has played 4’road games in 6 weeks. If we come out flat again and get smoked on Homecoming by Ball State then I’ll agree with the Sky is falling remarks. Instead, I think this is the real wake up call that this team needs to have a solid season. Even still in this game they tried to get back into it at several moments. It was just Central’s day.

Remember too these are ultimately college students at its heart not robots. This type of performance used to be the norm and now is a shock.

Although I am waiting for one of you to put up the fire Creighton thread.

It would take A LOT more of these games over the course of a couple years to ever even think about firing Creighton. Something might have to give with the offense though, if we don’t improve. Keen’s system is painful.

You're new here Russ, and you obviously don't pay attention to many of these boards. This one is pretty calm compared to most. Most everyone else here has been around the last 4 years as the program has turned and gotten better. What we're witnessing right now is baffling to many.

dansplaining's theory that this team has a 'don't give a sh*t' problem may not be too far off. Obviously there are plenty of guys who do care, but it only takes a relatively small number to infect the overall karma.

I'm actually watching and thinking it just may be a toughness, or lack of fight in the dog, problem. That is not an easy problem to overcome. You either have that toughness and fight in you, or you don't. We'll see if there's any leadership and junkyard dog left in this team or not........real quick.

Embarrassing performance by all.

A.) I’ve been reading / watching the team longer than you have.
B.) The “lack of fight” accusation is lazy, to say nothing of the gross nose-up self regard of he who yells that kinda thing through the TV.

Reading/watching but now all of sudden you come out to police the board?

When you're just getting smacked around and losing both sides of the line of scrimmage.........it's all about the 'fight' Russ. Nothing lazy about making a very salient point.

Football is as much or more about the tenacity, and 'want to' of the players, as it is the X's and O's.

You disagree with that and you've likely never actually played the game.

Not here to get into a p*ssing match with you, but please don't start whining and taking issue with everyone's comments on the board. I think we can all make legitimate football points without all the nonsense.

RE: Game Day: @CMU
Guys once again I can sympathize with all of the disappointing comments made about our performance today. It was by far our most appalling MAC effort is the past four years. Our defense, the past pride of this team, flailed anemically today and shocked us all in a game, we and everyone else expected us to win.

Still the last time we were 3-2 was in 2011 after we thumped two weak FCS opponents and I simply do not care to spend the time researching how long before that we achieved a 3-2 opening record, suffice to say it was a long time ago. The fact that we are disgusted, is in a way, a tribute to the current state of EMU football.

I can't give up on this team yet, they have performed solidly up to that weather delay at Rynearson. Of course if they don't get a big W next week against Ball St, that may change.

There is one hidden benefit to this game's outcome. The two top MAC coaches to be poached are now Candle and McElwain, Creighton just dropped down a notch or two.

CMU was ready to play against a rival. We weren’t. The players took this game as seriously as its coach.

Anyone who says CMU isn’t a rival has an incredible lack of awareness of our institutional history, and how CMU tried to rescind our MAC membership when we were especially vulnerable.

I stand by everything I’ve said. I think it’s perfectly acceptable to suddenly come out of lurking to yell BS at “fans” who start lighting the curtains on fire. It’s my house too.

If y’all wanna chalk up today to not trying hard enough, I mean.... do you. That’s about the lowest hanging fruit on the tree.

Once again spot on Jerry!!!!! We're 3-2, and yes got beat soundly today vs C Mich, but they've played against decent competition so far, so their record did match their the wins and losses. They're very good at the skills positions for A MAC school, and with zero DL pressure, our defensive backs got destroyed! And, we're one dimensional on offense as well...….Ball St, W Mich, and Toledo won't be easy without a DL getting any pressure! Lets go to a bowl game.....TOLEDO is the class of the MAC west...….Creighton is still building this program, remember in year 1 we went 1-11, and year 2 we went 2-10......We don't have a Pat O'Conner, or Maxx Crosby on this either!

a loss against ball state next week sends this team into a death spiral and we turn into a 4-8 also ran. i saw cc was talking about wanting to win the mac. guess what? that dream is over this season. if thats how we look against cmu starting a back up qb toledo and western and niu are going to throttle us - again.

i guess i was complaining about all those one score games - be careful for what you wish for eh?

RE: Game Day: @CMU
Man this game was bad for a bunch of reasons. I'm with most of you guys that this loss hurts a TON. Some alarming stats/notes that need to be fixed.....[/align]
  1. 1. We got killed coming off a bye week. I love CC but you cant get outcoached like that in ALL areas after a week off to get healthy and study your opponent.
  2. 2. We had ZERO sacks and ZERO QB hurries. Our D Line needs work.
  3. 3. Glass looked inaccurate.
  4. 4. Our LB's are good against the run but lack athleticism to move laterally. We got burned a lot from the middle.

Guys, this doesn't mean the season is over by ANY stretch but this loss reminded of old Eastern and the way we lost is VERY alarming. Where are the playmakers? Why did we not blitz with Hoying like we did against Illinois when we have not had any QB pressures today? Why did we go to Cannon so few times to then open up the outside with Jackson? Seemed like we were out-coached, out-hustled and the saddest part is that I'm not seeing any "dog" on the team that will stand up and lead like we may have had with a guy like Banham.

I hope they figure it out because I still feel like the MAC is up for grabs but it's not looked good since Illinois. (3 weeks now)

My 2 cents...

EMU lost a lot of talent on defense from the last few years. It wasn't just a loss of talent, but it seems to have changed the personality of the defense.

Losing Eddington and Holford from the defense makes it even worse.

It seemed to me like emu got burned on blitzes today. Was Neathery too aggressive? On the flip side, CMU lit up Glass on a few blitzes.

The offensive game plan was a mistake by not even trying to get a run game going. WTF was that?

CMU is solid, but penalties are going to catch up to them.

I saw that Nielson went down with a hand or arm injury very late. If he and Sow both miss time then the left side of the line will be manned by back-ups.

Sow will be back...he was suspended for today's game because of the sideline fight two weeks ago.

Everyone on this board thought we'd go 2-10 after the WMU game last year. Then we won 5 of our next 6 games.

I'm pissed at this performance but we aren't as bad as it feels right now. And CMU is better than we all thought.

Agree Frank.

I don't think it's out of bounds to be pissed off about today. The coaches had a bye week to come up with a game plan, CMU was on their back up QB, we ended up with ZERO QB hurries or sacks and we lost by 26 points to an in-state MAC team that we recruit against. We got out-coached and I did not see any one player show any fight to stop the momentum.

CC talks all the time about taking the next step to be better than mediocre. Well guys, when you say, "it was just one game," or "the sky is not falling" you are right but that is what mediocre programs do when you are favored to win and the last two games have looked shaky at best. We need to up our standards.
