This will be an interesting match up and I think the TIGERS will be well prepared. Our last game was against NAVY on Thursday so we have had some extra days to prepare for ULM. I would expect a good turnout of U of Memphis fans.

This is a CLASSIC trap game. A road game against a quality opponent but one from what can only be considered a lesser conference. Sandwiched in between two conference games.

This is the type of game where a team could overlook the competition and it could bite them in the ass in the end. Cannot allow Johnson to establish the running game to the point where our safeties bite hard on play-action.

Definitely a lesser conference. The AAC has established itself as in my opinion the top G5 conference. I do however think that the Sun Belt has passed Conference USA and the MAC. Johnson is a very impressive running back and we will definitely need him to have a good game tomorrow to have a chance in this one. Another interesting tidbit is that Josh Pederson, our tight end, is the son of the Eagles head coach Doug Pederson. In fact Doug was in town for the game last weekend. Looking forward to welcoming the Tigers to Monroe tomorrow and hope enjoy the area. I hope to also meet some of you tomorrow.

Any Memphis fans in town tonight Kahlo Tapas and Tequila Restaurant and Bar. It ya an adjoining patio with Two Dudes Brew and Que and have live music tonight. Very nice. Then Flying Tiger Brewery is also fun downtown. A very good 80’s
cover band, The Molly Ringwolds are also playing at Mustang Sally’s downtown tonight too.

RE: ULM v #23 Memphis
Here is the UL-M version of the weekly breakdown I do of all Tigers games.

TIGERS VS UL-M BY THE NUMBERS:

On paper, it should be a cakewalk for the Tigers. (13 to 14 point favorites)

However, UL-Monroe went into Tallahassee and took FSU to overtime. But then turned around and lost at Iowa St 72-20. They have the potential to score but have not shown the ability to stop the other team. Ranking 113th in scoring defense.

They play much better at home, but then again they have played weaker teams at home.

Unless the Tigers come out flat after an emotional Navy win and looking ahead to their trip to Philadelphia, then the offense should be able to call in the score.

UL-M defense does not play in their opponent's backfield much. Ranking 93rd in tackles for loss and 102nd in sacks. But they do take care of their own backfield ranking 12 in tackles for loss allowed and 39 in sacks allowed. It should be an interesting battle since the Tigers are 18th in tackles for loss but 120th in tackles for loss allowed. Whose line will win the battle in the trenches will be key.

Tigers should have a major advantage in special teams as UL-M ranks 104th in kickoff return defense and 92nd in kickoff returns. And 41st in net punting, 86th in punt returns and 60th in punt return defense.

Evans passes for 221 ypg with an 11.32 ypc average. Both Josh Johnson (120)(RB) and Markis McCray (101)(WR and kick returner) average over 100 all-purpose yards per game. Their top WR is Josh Pederson who averages over 50 ypg in receptions and had 3 TDs. So Tigers defense cannot just sleepwalk their way through this game or it could become a shootout.

If Tigers come to play they should easily cover the 13-14 points spread. IF they come to play.

Chase Day is out today. Not good news for the run defense, or defense at all for that matter.

Ok, I just have to say y'all have a GREAT team. I know y'all should've been 3-1 heading into this game.

I'm excited for you and your program as y'all are building a monster.

I'm well aware that y'all had the momentum until those 2 back-to-back scores late. I feel fortunate to leave Monroe with a HARD FOUGHT win.

Best of luck the rest of the way.

Thank you for the kind words. Wow, what a ball game! We sure enjoyed hosting you and sorry it was so hot! I think being nationally televised and the heat kept a lot of people home. Pretty embarrassing crowd for hosting the number 23 team in the country I met plenty a very very nice Memphis fans today and it was a pleasure hosting you hope we can keep the series going. Good luck the rest of the way I’ll be pulling for you.

Good luck to you guys, Memphis fans. Your fans have been classy here and your players seemed to be classy as well. I’ll be pulling for you the rest of the way! That was a very fun game to watch, despite the final score.

Well, fun except for those several times my heart stopped when y'all had the ball.

Seriously, much respect for the Warhawks!
