I was looking at the 1969 season when schools only played 9 or 10 regular season games. It was interesting how many of the top teams played each other in the regular season, especially the Pac 8, Big 10, Big 8 and Independents. Rankings are after bowls.

Pac 8
#3 USC played NE, ND and UCLA, Stanford
#13 UCLA played USC and Stanford
#19 Stanford played Purdue and UCLA, USC

Big 10
#4 Ohio St.played MI and Purdue
#9 Michigan played Missouri and Ohio St., Purdue
#18 Purdue played Stanford, ND and Ohio St. and Michigan

Big 8
#6 Missouri played MI and Nebraska and Colorado
#11 Nebraska played USC and Missouri, Colorado
#16 Colorado played Penn St. and Missouri, Nebraska
Oklahoma was 6-4 and unranked but beat CU-losing to MO, NE, TX and then ranked #18 KSU.

Ind.
#2 Penn St. played Colorado and WVU
#5 ND played USC and Purdue
#12 Houston played Florida and Ole Miss
#17 WVU played Penn St.


SWC
#1 Texas played Arkansas (and Oklahoma ranked 8 at the time)
#7 Arkansas played Texas

SEC
#8 Ole Miss played LSU and Tennessee and Houston
#10 LSU played Ole Miss and Auburn
#14 Florida played Auburn and Houston
#15 Tennessee played Ole Miss, Auburn
#20 Auburn played TN, LSU, FL

Bowls
Texas over Notre Dame
USC over Michigan
Penn St. beat Missouri
Nebraska beat Georgia
Colorado beat Alabama
Ole Miss beat Arkansas
Houston beat Auburn
