FWIW, the backup Van Trease performed as well as the starter Meyer at Miami. Meyer took 3 really hard hits in the game, all 3 with the rusher getting a full running start and drilling him in the midsection. All 3 times he stood in there and threw the ball and took the hit. Some times it is better to throw it away and protect yourself for the next play.
