RE: 2019-2020 JMU MBB Season Predictions
What I thought was perhaps most revealing in that 3-Man Weave write-up was the issue of Rowe having a short rotation. Many times, the team would be competitive, but then run out of gas late, losing a lot of close games in the process. A deeper rotation, in combination with the continued development of returning players, should help greatly, with the freshman class providing a lot of that rotation depth. I also think that the three new staff will help both developmentally and tactically on both sides of the ball. What this all looks like we're about to find out!

I agree with you about Jacobs. As Wilson has developed and should have a good year,Jacobs becomes even more important. With Greg Jones leaving, Jacobs should man the 4 and relieve Wilson at times in the 5 spot. Time for Jacobs to step up and I feel he will.

When I see the bigger rotation and pressure defense faster paced offense i’ll Believe it- coaches have been promising that at Jmu for several years now

Agree, I think this is what it takes to be a successful mid-major BB program. The old school, methodical, slow it down, set pays may work quite well for the UVA's of the world but not so much in our pond. Street Ball is how you upset better teams.

RE: 2019-2020 JMU MBB Season Predictions
Yeah I guess there have been reasons from a personnel perspective relating to attrition, injuries suspensions etc but coaches as far back as Brady have promised that every year and then fell back into 7-8 man rotations and mostly half court play on both sides

I’d much rather us take some risks and get out and run- I also think it may help with recruiting and retention to play that way- more minutes to go around, more guys involved and to 84s point keeps guys fresher all game. Let’s hope that Rowe finally has the horses to do that. Play 10 guys regularly and push the tempo and the issue with your opponents.

of course, the seeding is used for CAA tourney bracketing and the only advantage now is to be in the top 2 and play a quarterfinal game against the winner out of the Keener round less than 24 hours after their pillow fight win.

The only disadvantage would be to fall into the 7,8,9, or 10 seed and have to play an extra game in the Keener round trying to win 4 games in 4 days. Good Luck doing that.

Seeds 3,4,5,6 are essentially on equal footing in the tournament bracket and play each other in the quarterfinals. For CAA tournament purposes, there really is no differentiation in those seeds.

What would be interesting to see is each season's regular season standings in the above chart. i.e. last year JMU was seed #8, but was actually tied for 8th with Towson at 6-12.
I remember in 14-15, JMU was seed #4, but tied for 1st in the CAA at 12-6. It was a backdoor regular season title, but nobody in the CAA had a better record and it is a true double round robin schedule.

RE: 2019-2020 JMU MBB Season Predictions
The seed is really what matters- the tie for 1st while a nice accomplishment does not provide the auto NIT berth which has some value if you don’t get the auto bid and the 4 seed matches you vs a 5 in the first (which two years in a row worked out terribly for JMU) and slates you to play the 1 in round 2.

The 1,2, or 3 are where you want to be. The last 8 years dating back to their NCAA tourney year the only time JMU was a 3 was in a year where the Caa seeded 7 teams for their Tourney.

Need to get to top 3 this year and good things will happen in DC for the NCAAT.

RE: 2019-2020 JMU MBB Season Predictions
I disagree that the 3 seed matters. Only seeds 1 and 2 provide a true advantage in the CAA tourney format. Top 2 is going to provide an easy first game against a team playing 2 games in less than 24 hours. Top 2 if JMU wants the easy route.

I took a few minutes to answer my question re the chart above.
Here is how JMU has finished since the year of their CAA tourney title and NCAA dance.
2013 11-7
2014 6-10. CAA had only 9 teams that year
2015 12-6
2016 11-7
2017 7-11
2018 6-12
2019 6-12

When was the last time JMU finished as a 1 or 2 seed? The Lefty era. I do think it’s curious the top seeds the last several years have been dominated by basketball only schools.

Any stats available on the game or just the results posted somewhere?
These preseason scrimmages are usually pretty closed off.

uh, idk, I guess they told shane to stfu, so I'd feel bad blowing up his spot, and I can't remember what was said exactly, but there was a not so secret scrimmage, which we looked very good in.
