Thank you for sharing that article. I found it great reading and pretty much spot on especially about JMU, I have a good feeling that with staff additions and more experienced team our Dukes will find their way. Rowe is obviously a great man, but must step up his bench coaching this year. Coaches would love to have this much talent and experienced starters, the young bench is a concern, hopefully Christmas is as good as advertised.
GO DUKES

You're more than welcome! I would thank Shane Mettlen, though. I pulled it from his twitter feed. Some very thorough and good information in that write-up. They keep talking about the CAA being down, but some real good recruits and transfers have come in to the league, as have two good coaches at Elon and W&M. I think both Delaware and Drexel will be formidable teams to be reckoned with. DE lost a real good player to Pitt, but has three transfers coming in. Drexel has two of the better incoming recruits to the league. CofC, evidently, has added a couple of really good freshman although they're both rated only two stars (one had significant interest from a number of big time teams). Even W&M with Nathan Knight, a 7 foot transfer and a couple of other transfers could be better than some expect. I'll probably go back and take another look at that write-up, though.

For any CAA basketball fans out there, Devontae Cacok seems to be doing well with the Lakers. It seemed like he was one of the first off the bench in their demolition of GS the other night and he scored 11 points with 4 boards. Two other CAA rookies in Utah with Brantley and Wright-Foreman, both taken in the second round. Believe Damion Lee is with GS and JJ Barea still in Dallas to round out CAA participation in the pro league.

The CAA has its media day today and it will be on Flo Sports starting at noon.
I can’t wait for the fearless leader Joey D to appear in knee high socks, a headband, and goggles.

Surprised Northeastern is ranked so high by folks in the pre-season polls- they lost a lot- best defender and two facilitators. I thought that there may be an advanced stat on this but I can't find it- points assisted- essentially the percentage of points a guy scores that were the direct result of someone setting him up. My guess is that Jordan Roland had a high percentage of his points assisted. Similar to Stuckey Mosely. Roland doesn't have Pusica or Gresham to set him up anymore. Does his production take a hit because he isn't a create your own shot kind of guy? It will be interesting to see- in Coens motion offense maybe its business as usual and next man up. I just think they will take a bigger step back based on who they have lost and the make up of their team.

Yeah, NE lost Occeus to transfer, right, and Pusica to graduation. That's really got to hurt them. Hofstra lost one of the best scorers the CAA has had in Wright-Foreman and I'm not sure how they replace that. I agree with 97 that Trueheart is not very good for Hofstra. Meanwhile, teams like DE, Drexel and W&M are perhaps undervalued, as is JMU and possibly Towson.

That same website ranks top 100 players nationally and has two CAA players in Knight and Riller. Shows how many quality players the league had a year ago.

For JMU, one area of vulnerability is a lack of size up front. Roster would look better with one more big.

We really need Jacobs to take a big step- relatively highly regarded as a prep player he needs to be a factor down low. At times he showed some flashes blocking shots and rebounding. He can also run the floor I think he needed to get stronger in his lower body to bang down there. Even if his outside shot is still poor I don’t think we need him taking shots outside of 3 but this team needs him to be reliable and consistent down low to compliment Wilson.

By all accounts (there is a recent DNR article on this) Wilson had another strong off season. I think it’s often overlooked how much better he got last year and even throughout last season. He can be a monster down low and it wouldn’t surprise me if he ends up as an all Caa guy this year but we really need Jacobs as a Junior to step forward.

#CAAHoops Preseason poll results:
Hofstra
Charleston
Northeastern
JMU
Delaware
Towson
William & Mary
Drexel
UNCW
Elon

Charleston actually got more No. 1 votes than Hofstra (18-14). #JMU got three first-place votes.

I agree, Wilson has a good chance to be all CAA..

as for frontcourt, definitely a weakness last year. Wilson gave us the most. Phillips was a waste and Jacobs was limited. this year, we say we are gonig to be more up tempo so may it not be as big an issue. In addition, between some development by Jacobs, the addition of xmas and potentially the emergence of flowers, I am hopeful we can get another contribuiting in the front court.

So that matches pretty much what I predicted. We should be improved, and the league is not quiet as competitive.

W&M @ #7 is a little higher than I expect......

The only true front court guy on the all Caa teams
Is Nathan Knight. No Brantley no Cacok no Purdue grad transfer for Hofstra no Elon big guy who could step out and shoot 3s, no Carter for Delaware. I know that NE had a couple of bigs, Delaware will
Have Painter the Nova transfer, but I think DJ with his skill
Set and strength could avg a double double.

I’m happy to see the Dukes picked 4th- I think it will motivate the coaches and players and reenforce that this is the year where we need to compete at the highest level of the conference.

RE: 2019-2020 JMU MBB Season Predictions
I believe the key for JMU is Lewis. For me, there is a disconnect with Lewis on what makes a great player great. Lewis thinks he has to showcase his scoring abilities for the next level which is a P5 program or the NBA. Great players get and keep their teammates involved in the offense then take over close games late when other players shy away from doing so. Great players make everyone around them better. Ron Curry did just this for us. We saw how valuable he was the year after he graduated when the same team came back minus him.

If Lewis isn’t a ball hog going one on one all game long trying to win games by himself, then I think the other four players on the court are a strong supporting cast. Parker, Wilson, Banks and Christmas all can score if Lewis is willing to distribute the ball.

For the first time in Rowe’s tenure, I believe he has a solid 10 players that are CAA level talent. That will allow him to substitute more freely and keep guys fresh for the late game push.

I am going with 8-3 out of conference and 13-5 in conference for a final record of 21-8. I am going to say, 1-1 in the tournament with a close loss in the semifinals.

I like your optimism. That said, a 13-5 CAA record w/a semifinal Tourney loss would be a disappointment to me (based on conference record). Would like to think that record would get us to the finals. I guess it would be close based on recent history.

RE: 2019-2020 JMU MBB Season Predictions
I’m not sure I agree on Lewis having an agenda- I think he’s been given a lot of latitude but I think he wants to win. I like Parker being established as PG as a Sophomore and with Stuckey gone I think Matt’s role is better defined than it’s been. Hopefully he won’t have to do as much in isolation with the ball and he can let the game come to him a little more- play better defense and shoot a higher percentage from 3 all season long. He’s a Junior and 1st team guy so I’m expecting him to take a step forward this year.

Keep in mind that Ron Curry made his big jump in his Junior season.
