As for North Texas, this season is over. This was a team that should have been very good, but was not. Our coach and his staff have a lot to answer for. Don't expect us to set any attendance records in our final three home games. I know I'm not wasting my money driving 3 hours to watch this dumpster fire.

Joe,

You still have to support the team. Michigan had several players come back a few year back and started the season preseason #5 and lost to Appalachian State. Things don't always work out like expected. Y'all will rebound. You can get all the recruits you need in the Dallas area.

I'll always be a Mean Green fan. But, changes have to be made (OC, DC, HC, both lines, ...). This is Littrell's 4th season as head coach. This is a senior heavy team, and every UNT player on that field tonight was one of his recruits. We pay Littrell $1.8 million a year. This season is completely unacceptable, and I will not waste my time or money on one more trip this year. Even if we rebound, a 6 win season still isn't good enough. Until some heads roll, I'll watch our games on the streaming services.

Seriously? You're the OP for almost every UNT thread on this forum. You the biggest UNT sunshine pumper. And you're gonna quit on the team just because a little ars kicking by USM?

I'm quitting on this year's team. Hopefully, our AD forces some changes and next season will be better.

No kidding. He listed in detail earlier in the thread exactly how and why he felt UNT would beat USM and gave a silly score of his predicted beat down. Went on and on about how good UNT was, like they are some super good team. Then, USM beats UNT down and he wants everyone fired. Your UNT team was not as good as advertised. Overrated. Your coach is not bad imo. Just ran into a better team / program that has finally gotten back on their feet enough to beat modern day CUSA teams.

Good game UNT. Hope Fine’s injury isn’t too serious. Thoughts on the game:

-Terrible officiating by CUSA officials. Never fails. That back judge was absolute garbage. On those PI’s he threw his flag like 5 secs after the play was over. If the WR is initiating grabbing with the defender and you don’t call it then that’s fine but you DON’T call it when the DB starts to reciprocate. Terrible officiating.
-Score wasn’t indicative of the game. Should’ve been 40-ish to 10-ish.
-If we happen to get our starting RB back this season from injury then we’re gonna be a dangerous team.
-Jack and the WR’s shredded UNT’s DB/LBs. They just did not have an answer. Jack finished 29/36 for 421 yds 3TDs.
-Run game wore down UNT’s front seven in the 3rd and beyond.
-Quez and Jaylond are two of the best WRs we’ve had at USM in a long time.
-Play of the game was the deflect/kick INT by our defender in the 3rd.
-Took a little while but once the dline was able to pressure/hit Fine, is when we won the game.
-Nice to have a 100 yard rusher for the first time in a few years.

NT has a great coach, growing fan support, and money. The team is well coached, disciplined, and pretty salty. Don't give up on them, especially when they just played a Southern Miss team that remotely resembles a Southern Miss team. If Hopson gets his head out of his butt, and we can get healthy, we can be a very good team. We are on our way back to Southern Miss level. We still left 14-21 points on the field tonight, easy.
Hopson is a conundrum. Monken, with this team, is ranked about 15 right now, with one loss, and serious momentum.
Hopson is either overthinking, or he is clueless at times. Some how, some way, we have some serious talent for assistant coaches. We pay them peanuts, so they won't be around long at all. Hopefully, Hopson can keep finding and recruiting great assistants. And maybe he'll start believing in his team more, and stop with the stupidity.

While watching real time in the stands I would say the PI calls that kept UNTs drive alive were complete BS. the first was uncatchable and the second was a play where both were battling equally. The UNT catch to the one yard line was an outright push off by the receiver that the whole stadium saw.
There is no reason for that poor of a performance by a college officiating crew. I’ve been to many public high school games better officiated.

Only two decisions tonight that I would call outright stupid. The first was the quick kick on fourth and one just on UNTs side of the field. You come out of a time out and pull that BS out your backside. I told my buddy at the time UNT would score after that debacle and bingo bango they did.
The other was the called time out late in the game when UNT was fourth and eight on our side of the field. How do you call a time out there and then give up a thirty yard touchdown pass to a wide open receiver? Absolutely dreadful game management by Hop.
It would be a good thing for one of the assistants to tell Hop he is out of time outs. No timeouts for you, Hop. That would result in about a ten to fourteen point difference in our favor.

We beat a good team. That's why we love this. Fine was 11/25 for 217. That's great defense.

Big win!

A couple of thoughts on UNT.
I think they are really missing Graham Harrell as OC.
Mason Fine never looked comfortable tonight. Was he injured going into the game? I hope he recovers quickly and e joy the remaining games in his Sr season.
The Mean Green defense wasn't mean at all. Abraham could have thrown for as many yards as he wanted to tonight.

1. The North Texas defense is better than most on here believe and among the better defenses in C-USA
2. The UNT rushing attack is better than it was last season, and will force USM to keep more players in the box
3. Mason Fine always plays with a chip on his shoulder, so Abraham leading the conference in passing is plenty of motivation

My prediction

North Texas 52
Southern Miss 31

I guess this is up there with

every coach we replace is better than the one that left
every freshman coming in is better than a sr that left
every game at UNT has more fans than the game before
every year UNT moves ahead of every other school carrying the CUSA tourch

I just finished watching this game after driving an hour to get home from the WEstern game. If that's one of the best damn defense in this conference...

CUSA IS Light years worse than anyone though

The UNT DB coach needs to be fired if hes the one teaching those kids...let every receiver have a 7 yards of open field on the catch. Then try to tackle them. 3 out of 6 games this defense has gave up 45 or more points.

I thought you told us UNT had a great coaching staff,,,best ever? Let me clue you in on something I've said repeatedly.....

dont pay a coach or staff more than you can afford to pay to get rid of them. There's no amount of money a CUSA school can pay a head coach that will keep the lowest level P5 school from coming after and getting...if its just money.

ULL found this out with Mark Hudspeth and so will UNT. It's not the money that wins in the G5 or CUSA

Remember though that the score was 28-20 at the half. Whatever second half adjustments were made they proved effective. Besides Fine and Siggers going down, I think it was our O-line that won the day. UNT has a good team and I hope Fine and Siggers will be ok.

Southern Miss 31

Hope youre wrong. Btw, Usm isnt 1-4 Fcs Abilne Christian. Id like to think we can play you much tougher than the 51-31 score yall had together.

Our defense was running our base package in that game, and most of ACU's points (21) came in the second half of the game, when we had backups in the game.

A lot has changed since the ACU game. We have had players lost for the season due to injuries. Since that game starters have returned that were being rested or recovering from injuries, and players have emerge to become playmakers.

If you want a better understanding of what North Texas has and can do, you should look at our UTSA game. That is closer to the Mean Green team Southern Miss will face today. Of course UTSA is very bad, but that game shows a more accurate representation of what the North Texas offense and defense will try to do against USM.

Wow, post all that ranting and bragging, then you abandon your team.

IMO the plays of the game/game changer was the last 3:20 of the first half. USM led
21-14 when UNT scored but missed their PAT to trail 21-20. UNT then stuffed USM on back to back plays from the 1 but USM scored on 3rd down to go up 8 (28-20) and give USM the momentum headed to the half. Had USM not scored that TD with less than a minute to play I feel like the 2nd half/3rd quarter could've been all UNT. Good thing for USM fans we'll never know. Hopefully the UNT QB and RB weren't serious injuries as UNT still has time to salvage their season and get bowl eligible.

i'm not as big of a talker as other north texas fans here, but i'm not going anywhere. it's my team...sure, they are disappointing this year, but what else will i do on the final 3 home game saturdays? everyone in my tailgate, i only see 6-7 times a year...gotta make the most of it. injuries have been a problem this year, really don't think fine has been healthy at all this year, but he had to go out and play his senior year. maybe the boys turn it around, maybe they don't...whatever...still my team and i will support them, win or lose.

I know you guys are disappointed. Sure you wanted a win but you did get one from us the last couple of years. That probably made you feel it was easy. This USM team is better than any team talent wise since 2010. 2011 and the horrible hire killed our program like the death penalty. We have scratched and clawed back. We still have a ways to go. Our coaching staff seems to take a week or two off every year so we shall see but my warning is this, we have finally gotten back to a place where we can put a beat down on any team in this league. Will we going forward? I don’t know. But don’t feel to bad. I don’t think you will be the last.

I am far from a bandwagon fan. I have been a season ticket holder since I graduated, and have like many on this board, have given thousands and thousands of dollars to our athletic department. I'm not giving up on North Texas. I'll be buying my season tickets again next season. I'll even be watching the games on the streaming services and NFL network. But, our organization needs to be sent a message and be held accountable for this debacle.

A majority of our fans are not coming back to Apogee this season. That is just the truth. It will look quite bare against MTSU on Saturday. Littrell, his staff, and the team have sealed that deal. That is the message that is sent when a team under preforms this badly. 2-4 at the mid-point of the season is an embarrassment. Even if by some miracle we rebound and finish 6-6, it still isn't enough. Our coaches obviously didn't put in the work in the off-season, and develop or acquire the players we needed to succeed at the level we should in Litrell's 4th season.
