I wouldn't be shocked if Fine is out for a good bit. After the injury, I saw him and a few coaches walking into USM's field house (presumably to get some x-rays done). Hop tends to be VERY hush hush about injuries. Probably the most hush hush I've ever seen from a coach. Not sure how Littrell handles injuries pr-wise.

I watched a replay of the game and the announcers made that comment as well. I would agree that with him going towards USM's athletic center he was getting xrays and such so there obviously was concern of a break or fracture. Had it been "bumps or bruises" he would've gone to the visitors locker room for treatment. Best wishes and a speedy recovery in whatever the injury was.

It's Monday. He will be back to homering on Tuesday. This is psychology 101.

I am far from a bandwagon fan. I have been a season ticket holder since I graduated, and have like many on this board, have given thousands and thousands of dollars to our athletic department. I'm not giving up on North Texas. I'll be buying my season tickets again next season. I'll even be watching the games on the streaming services and NFL network. But, our organization needs to be sent a message and be held accountable for this debacle.

A majority of our fans are not coming back to Apogee this season. That is just the truth. It will look quite bare against MTSU on Saturday. Littrell, his staff, and the team have sealed that deal. That is the message that is sent when a team under preforms this badly. 2-4 at the mid-point of the season is an embarrassment. Even if by some miracle we rebound and finish 6-6, it still isn't enough. Our coaches obviously didn't put in the work in the off-season, and develop or acquire the players we needed to succeed at the level we should in Litrell's 4th season.

Hey Sideshow......look at the bright side: UNT is only paying Litrell $1.8M a year. 07-coffee3

From the outside looking in, it appears that NT's former coach was a better recruiter than Littrell and that Littrell is better at coaching up players and game plans. It takes both though, especially for nearly $2m a year.

Jay Hopson laughs and says, that's less than my contract.. Then someone reminds him that's yearly and Jay laughs and says, he makes more than I do in 3 years, and I whooped him?

That's not the case. The previous coach was awful at talent evaluation, bad at winning recruiting battless going so far as to say "North Texas is a hard place to recruit to" and even worse at developing players. The previous coach had one good season in 2013 aided by a very good defense which was mostly players Todd Dodge signed in 2009/2010.

Littrell went JUCO heavy his first couple years and only started signing quality high school players in his third class. Those guys are RS FR/SO, this year class is mostly being redshirted and next years class is our highest ranked yet. I know this is the same BS you hear from everybody who is university of next year, but the bulk of our roster is younger guys who need another year or two. We just don't have quality offensive lineman, that's been the case for a while and I'm not sure it will change.

I personally think we are going to be fine moving forward, this season has been quite alarming to say the least but if you really looked at this team without green glasses before the season you could see how losing five (5!) starters who went on to NFL training camps/practice squads was going to be really hard to overcome even with a good QB.

Good to know, as we don't need UNT to drop off the map! OL is the hardest position to recruit quality players to, so you need great coaching. We replaced our OL coach in the off season and are starting to see the improvement we'd hoped for.

I agree. Injuries have been an issue, but in year 4 of the Littrell era, our depth should be better, and are starting lines should be a lot better.

I hate to see Fine finish his career like this. That guy deserves better. Fine has looked off all season. Slower running the ball. Inaccurate throws. And, I wondered if the years of taking a beating behind a substandard O-line had finally taken its toll on him. Even if Mason is able to take the field in the coming weeks, at this point my concern for his long term health becomes more important, than a few meaningless wins in a ruined season.

I hope your group has fun tailgating, and I hope North Texas wins them all. But, I won't be driving 3 hours down to Denton and 3 hours back, getting home at 2 am, just to keep watching what I saw against Southern Miss.

If for no other reason, UNT fans should go to the game to support and watch Mason Fine. He is a special type player that doesn't come around every recruiting cycle. Go and enjoy his wizardry with the football and don't let your enjoyment be determined by the outcome of the game. Look for other ways to enjoy the college football game experience. I learned this lesson the season (and seasons that followed) e12Loss "Death Penalty" Johnson stood lost on the sidelines.
