Maximum number of Undefeated Teams at the End of the Regular Season:
9: All conference champs except the MAC champ. We went down one possible team this week because of the Notre Dame loss.

Teams with 1st loss:
Week 0 and 1: 35.38% (46 of 130)
Week 2: 38.01% (32 of 84)
Week 3: 32.69% (17 of 52)
Week 4: 34.29% (12 of 35)

Week 4 Thoughts:
-I've added the winless and 1-loss lists this week. The winless list is just for fun. We can look at the games coming and see where possible wins are. We usually end up with at most a team or two on the list at the end (often none).
The 1-loss list combined with the undefeated list is much more telling. Every single team that has made the CFP or the national championship in the BCS era except 1 has been either undefeated or with 1-loss. The lone exception was 2-loss LSU in the crazy 2007 season (it seemed the second anyone got to the top spot or two they lost a game no matter how much they were favored by that year). There should be more 2 loss teams in now thanks to having 4 teams in, but this many seasons in, the 0-1 loss rule continues to work so far so it should be assumed if you get off those lists, your chances are pretty small.

-Our winless list starts pretty small with only 5 teams. It's probably a week later than I usually start it. Only one team from a power 5 conference on it with Vanderbilt.

-This week concludes a good portion of our non-conference play and most games will be conference going forward.

-The SEC west race is looking very interesting with Alabama being its normal self, LSU rolling again, and Auburn beating Texas A&M.

-Wisconsin had its first real challenge of the year and looked really good vs. Michigan. Michigan might be about to go on a downward spiral, but if not, this could be a really good Wisconsin team.

-The PAC-12 did some of what it to stay in the CFP race this week with Washington and Oregon, and Cal all winning. Utah, Arizona State and Washington State losing hurt the cause though. Cal is the last undefeated team in the group.

-Group of 5 NY6 bowl: Interesting week. UCF losing this week did end the only (smallish) chance the Group of 5 conferences had of getting a team in the CFP, but the race for the NY6 bowl bid is still very open and interesting. UAB and Appalachian State both won this week keeping the Conference USA and the Sun Belt alive (the MAC is likely done outside of very weird circumstances). With UCF losing, it is now debatable how the committee would rank an undefeated American team vs. an undefeated Boise State (the last undefeated Mountain West team) or if and undefeated UAB or Appalachian State could beat out a 1-loss champ from the Mountain West or American (I lean against in many circumstances, but not all).

Week 5 Thoughts:
There is only 1 game between undefeated teams and it comes from the American on Thursday when Navy goes to Memphis. Could be a significant game for the western division (although other teams in the mix too).

We have one game between winless teams. Akron plays at UMass. In our other winless games, Louisiana Tech goes to play at winless Rice, Fresno State @ winless New Mexico State, and Northern Illinois @ winless Vanderbilt. I'm guessing we lose at least 2 teams from the winless list this week. Most important game might be for Vanderbilt given it is probably the best chance they have of a win the rest of the season.

1-loss Washington State @ 1-loss Utah: Both had disappointing loses last week, but still alive in the PAC-12. A 2nd conference loss for either could end PAC-12 hopes though.

Undefeated Virginia @ 1-loss Notre Dame: Irish coming off a close loss. Virginia has a great season going but struggled some with Old Dominion. Irish have to win to keep national title hopes alive.

1-loss USC @ 1-loss Washington: Game will help establish pecking order in fairly even PAC-12.

Undefeated Kansas State @ 1-loss Oklahoma State: The cowboys coming off close loss and Kansas State still undefeated.

Undefeated Ohio State @ 1-loss Nebraska: The cornhuskers have disappointed a bit this year, but a night game there will be biggest test yet for Ohio State.

Lining up for 2 SEC teams again, unless Clemson/B1G/BXII champs all 13-0.
