They are better off canning him mid-season, appointing an interim HC and spending the next three months recruiting the next coach. They are going to lose a lot more than $9M of Kelly's buyout from his sticking around in lost ticket and other football/sports sales next year alone, let alone the brand damage. Of course they should get a new GM first - Guerrero has to go. Bad situation at UCLA.

This. Ask Cincinnati fans and alumni what keeping Tommy Tuberville for 4 seasons did to our football program. Granted, he didn't have as big a buyout but UCLA can afford it. IMO, Chip Kelly from what I've seen since he left Oregon is a coach in name only with no fire in his belly to recruit and lead young men consistently to win. The last two seasons of his NFL coaching gig resulted in an 8-23 record. He's currently 3-12 at UCLA. I think you can see where the trend is going. I go back to this year's schedule. Tell me how many wins do you see this year?

@Cincinnati L
San Diego St L
Oklahoma L
@#19 Washington St
@ Arizona
Oregon St
@Stanford
#24 Arizona St
Colorado
@ #10 Utah
@ USC
California

Maybe 2 wins, potentially 3 at best. So, Chip finishes his first two seasons 6-18 or worse. Yeah, that will bring in the recruits and keep the fans in the seats. This is a sinking ship for UCLA and they should cut their losses sooner rather than later.

That'as a good point.

They're in the same position Memphis was in Tubby Smith's last year. Tubby's buyout was big (about $10 million), but they would have lost more money in season ticket sales if they kept him.

Better to cut Kelly loose now and maybe give an interim coach a chance to at least keep fans coming through the turnstiles for the rest of the 2019 season.

ESPN is televising the wrong Pac-12 game. They should be televising the Colorado vs Arizona State game, which is on the Pac-12 network. That is a great game, tied at 31-31 in the 4th quarter. The UCLA game belongs on the PAC-12 network, where it will not be seen.

I may have spoke too soon. Washington State 49, UCLA 38 late in the 3rd quarter. UCLA scored 21 points in less than three minutes.

RE: Chip Kelly
WSU Defense is horrible. If they had any they'd have made the playoffs.

That is Leach's big negative, no Defense

Joshua Kelley is a pretty good collegiate RB, averaging 5 ypc and he didn't play the first two games.

This is a different team with him running well.

So, UCLA now leads 67-63 with 1:00 to go.

Which is probably enough time for WSU to win yet.

Absolutely crazy football game.

An Unbelievable Comeback! Down 49-17 in the 3rd quarter, UCLA wins in a classic, 67-63! The offense finally woke up. Six turnovers on defense and a punt return for a touchdown!

Mora had his TAMU moment. But this felt different. We'll see.

I would not shovel the dirt on Kelly’s grave just yet. This win could start things rolling, then again maybe not.
