Three years in a row for App (2 overtime games and one blocked FG to end the game). I know how you feel.

A-State suffered for years under Steve Roberts. Prevent defenses don’t work. You have to keep doing what has been working all the game. I can’t count the number of games lost by getting conservative and/or going prevent under his staff. Play to win or you won’t. Playing “not to lose” is the kiss of death.

Just got back home from Minnesota.... this one was a tough game to swallow. This was a P5 scalp for the taking and we let them go.
This is where we see what type of Coach Chad is... this team has a lot of little things that need to be corrected. Some, which are carry overs from the prior season.
This Bye Week is very timely and is needed for help correct these issues.
Still unsure how this season is tracking to be honest, even if we stopped Minnesota's drive and win the game, these are issues I'm still concerned about.

Ga Southern Minnesota Game thread
I'm not into moral victories. Talent and some luck got us into a position to win. Minnesota's talent and our poor coaching lost us this game in the final minutes. This feels like that close call against NC ST all over again. We got lucky in a couple of games last year. We were unlucky at the end of this one for sure.

oh please. Coaching cost us this game, yeah, but it's stupid to compare this staff to tyson summers. it's idiotic.

Georgia Southern secondary defined, at least since 1991.
Those two plays had me more pissed than anything else the entire game. We should have put out foots on their throats and not let up. I hope I never see us play a prevent defense again.

Have seen a lot said and typed by the players. I hope they are as dialed in as they sounded after the game. If we can get rid of a couple stupid mistakes and lapses in coverage, I think we will be ok. I'm afraid the universe is correcting for the historically low turnover margin from last year and that we are going to have more than our share this year.

RE: Ga Southern Minnesota Game thread
I didn't see it mentioned, but they gave Minnesota a 1st down at the 1 yard line, but if you watch the replay, he was a yard short when his knee hit the ground. But Minnesota did the next play too fast for the play to be reviewed by the booth. He doesn't get a first down there, the clock continues to run with less plays and less time, could have been a totally different outcome.

There's been a lot of complaints about us calling a TO there, but I believe we did it to give the booth a chance to review the spot.
He was definitely short, but the refs were pretty generous with that one. They had signaled first down before even getting a good look at it.

Unknown right now. Given Tomlin's performance... Shai should take as long as he needs to get that shoulder right.

1) On their first TD, we had poor safety play that resulted in a missed tackle on a slant route for a 73 yard TD.
2) We played way too soft on 3rd and 30 and allowed them to get a little over 20 yards to setup a better attempt on 4th down. We had been blitzing hard on 1st and second down and got to the QB each time. We layed off after that.
What really hurts is seeing a lot of good things but way too many mistakes getting in the way.
Logic dictates that blitzing when you're opponent has 30 yards for a first down is almost always a better idea than running straight zone and rushing 3, especially in college.

Technically we did blitz. We sent 5 out of a 3-man front. However, the other 6 defenders were backed up to the line to gain, giving up an easy throw underneath that gained about 15 yards and then some missed tackling gave them an extra 5-7 making it an easier 4th down to convert.

Yea we should have had staggered coverage. They weren't going to punt so it was more important to limit their yardage on third down and then just keep them from crossing the marker on 4th down.

That's exactly my thought when re-watching it. Our guys looked like they assumed Minn would punt on 4th down with how that play was defended. Play that 3rd like a normal down, then go with the sticks coverage on 4th down, allow the underneath throw come up and make a play.
