I decided to go down to it in person. Of course live, everything went ok. Maybe they have it posted on the athletic website?

Looked like a pretty paltry turnout, just seeing the coverage on tv.

Do we really think anything's going to happen? I don't. People don't really speak up at the coaches show and I don't see Sander making a move right now in this landscape. Who knows though

I haven't been able to find the press conference online. I checked ETSU's site, googled, etc. Any idea where it can be seen?

I think the presser is taking the week off due to the bye week. I had forgot about the bye week. But there will be a radio show on tonight.

Yes. Got to give Jay credit. He fielded and asked some very hard questions as should be asked right now. What can the coach say at this point? A few fluff questions came in as usual but the toughest were asked. Does anyone know what the buy out would be?

And how were the addressed or answered? Was out of town and didn't get to listen. Thanks if anyone knows or listened and cares to share.

RE: ETSU Coaches Show
A few of the questions were just about unanswerable by him. One asked why the team came out at AP totally unprepared. Why has the team been outscored 112-6 by D1 teams. Why were you staring at the ground during the game. And other questions about the sub-par performance of the team. Not much way to answer these types of questions without just saying I do not know what I'm doing. There are always easy questions about what is your favorite offense and who is you favorite coach. Jay does a great job with the show and the podcasts going forward should be good.

RE: ETSU Coaches Show
I was struck by the fact that he didn't forcefully deny anything. If someone accused me of not being into the game or not knowing what I was doing, I would push back on the things I felt were untrue and let it be known how I really felt. He just kind of gave "aww shucks" answers to everything.

Quarles seems like a really good man. There's no denying that. The guy just doesn't have what it takes to win at this level. He doesn't have the demeanor.

RE: ETSU Coaches Show
If anyone wants to watch it, you can go on Facebook and search ETSU coaches show. You can watch just about any coaches show they’ve ever done.

I thought he did deny some of the accusations, especially the head hanging part. He said he “spits” sometimes out on the field, and someone must’ve snapped his photo while he had his head down spitting. He said he doesn’t walk around with his head down and was watching the game. Then he gave kind of an eye roll “social media for you” type of comment.

RE: ETSU Coaches Show
I wouldn't fire him this early in the season, but at this point I'd definitely be taking a hard look at the rest of the coaching staff to see who might be the best option to serve as an interim HC. If the team doesn't turn around and win the first two or three SoCon games right way, by mid season I'd debate whether or not to fire him then and maybe give the interim coach a chance to salvage something, or depending on how bad things are just bite the bullet and let him coach the rest of the season with the notice that he will not be back in 2024.

Letting him finish the year out might save some money from a buyout depending on what can be arranged.

Letting an interim coach take over mid season to me would be the preferred option. Even if there is no hope of making the playoffs at that point, there's always the possibility whoever the interim is might step up and win at least a couple of games at seasons end. Give the interim person more then one game to coach, and it could also be a useful way to determine if the interim coach might be worth promoting to the job permanently, or if it would be best to look elsewhere.

The only games this present team, with luck, might win - Citadel, VMI, Wofford. Of course they have us on their list of possible wins. A fight to stay off the bottom for these four.
