This game was a comedy of errors. We probably should have scored 45+ points easily.

2nd and 5 (MAINE20) - JD King fumbles a pitch, we recovered - FG
1st and goal (MAINE03) - J. Tomlin fumble recovered by Maine - Turnover
1st and goal (MAINE04) - 3 rushes 1 yard - FG
2nd and 2 (MAINE14) - 2 rushes no gain - FG
1st and 10 (MAINE19) - High snap over Tomlin's head - FG missed
1st and goal (MAINE05) - High snap over Tomlin's head - FG

In these 6 trips to the red zone alone we left a potential 30 points off the board.
11 points due to bad snaps by the backup center
11 points due to fumbled exchanges between QB and RB
8 points do to bad play calling.

In a perfectly clean game that puts the final score somewhere around 56-18. What remains to be seen and what we can never know is if Jacob Cooper is the one taking those snaps at center do we score TD's in those red zone trips or not? If Shai is in at QB and handles the pitch relationship better do we NOT fumble those two balls in the redzone and only come away with 14 points instead of 3?

I agree we had a lot of errors in this game and had all of those trips gone our way we would have blown them out. But in all fairness Maine had a dropped pass that was wide open and a sure touchdown and also had a turnover in the red zone so if all of the what-ifs didn't happen the score would have been 56-32. Still a double digit win but not quite as dominate as it should have been. Mistakes happen...that's football we just made a whole lot of them and still controlled the game for the most part.

True, and you could always tack on another 4 points for Anderson tripping. Either way, the point was our offense as a whole isn't broken as skins is suggesting.

No I agree 100% and I feel much better about it so long as these errors get cleaned up!

526 yards of total offense against Georgia State last week. Was Furman just that good or was your defense just that bad?

I think it's safe to say Furman would have murdered Tennessee.

Furman was good enough to exploit Gast's weaknesses on defense. They've been pretty decent against teams running inside for a while, but then everyone either goes to the perimeter or starts throwing on their secondary.

Gast is also probably extremely lucky that Ellington didn't come up gimpy earlier in the game.

This was a discussion on our classmates text group for sure. Everyone thinks UT is that bad right now and it wouldn't have been close.

How quickly we forget what a mess Pruitt was handed up there, heck they got turned down by what, 6 coaches? No one wanted a part of that mess, then most of the decent talent skipped town.

RE: Game Thread - Maine @ Georgia Southern (6pm ET)
For anyone counting, I think I read a slight on GS from an App fan that it was a closer game vs Maine than it should but his D just got shredded by Charlotte, and a Gstate team that got shredded by Furple. Perspective?

Maine's interior was pretty good, and one play I saw a DE play the dive, qb and pretty well play the pitch man... that's some talent you only see from the likes of LSU, UGA (Leo Floyd), etc....

That said, it was all self inflicted. Our YPP and advantage over them tells a story of a much bigger win than the scoreboard.

Well the previous AD had Mike Leach on deck and he said he'd do it....then the AD got fired a couple of hours later and the deal was thrown away.

In comes Phil Fulmer.
