NEC or America East? Would they keep football
Your answer was in the linked article.
FCS level for FB
"New Haven’s move to Division I would give the state eight basketball programs at the NCAA’s top level, including UConn, Hartford, Central Connecticut, Quinnipiac, Fairfield, Sacred Heart and Yale."
Hmmm yeah, way too many D-1 hoops teams.

Yeah, that region doesn't need more D1. But, I can't help but think the Merrimack jump didn't get some of these places thinking and presented a sense of urgency to address.
Like, if you're New Haven University, are you doing this because you fear that if you don't, another school in the region will? I'm looking at you, Bentley.

I suppose if the NEC is picking up your calls you may as well. Never know if you'll get the chance again.

The NEC has 9 football members and 11 basketball members. While odd numbers are manageable, they do seemingly have room for one more. And they don’t mind taking NE-10 callups. Whether they think New Haven adds anything for them, I couldn’t say.

Seems to me they just want to keep up with their in-state peers like Hartford, Fairfield, Quinnipiac, etc.

Given who they have hired as their AD, one can only hope he will never have to hire coaches!!

David actually predicted New Haven to NEC last year and got flamed.

When they added football, their 1st home game, they drew over 22,000. That was an FBS sized crowd. They did leveled off to D1. They made the D2 playoffs several years in a short period of time. I predicted that they would go D1 with their success. Imagine their crowd would be like for their 1st home game be like at D1 in football?

With any luck, D1 will soon expand to more than 400 schools and the NCAA will be forced to abandon its absurd policy of giving every conference, no matter how weak, an autobid to the NCAAT.
Better yet, the 150 or so schools that actually belong in D1 would break away from the NCAA entirely. Sports only make sense when all the competitors have somewhat comparable resources.

There are talks that D1 would go 1A and 1AA for all sports. This is a start in that direction.

Schools need to entertain students. Basketball is the cheapest way to do so.

This is the second time you have posted this and this is the second time you are wrong. It's time to remove this from your archive of unresearched info.
Official New Haven box score of first home game after return of football.
Quote:Date: 09/19/09 • Site: West Haven, Conn. • Stadium: DellaCamera Stadium • Attendance: 2136
New Haven has made 3 NCAA postseason appearances with a 2-3 record since football returned; 2011, 2012, 2018.

You have "predicted" everyone to go D1; it's hard to be wrong when you bet on every horse in the race to win.

Well, they could just hire "adult entertainers" for their students. That is much less expensive than an entire D-I basketball program, as anyone who follows Louisville basketball knows.
