Furman rushed 40 times for 369 yards and 5 TDs in beating Charleston Southern 46-13 last week.

RE: Game Thread: Georgia State @ Tennessee
Something tells me CSE is going to have the team focused enough that we don't trip up on Furman...but I'm definitely not NOT worried. We've been conditioned, after all.
I actually feel REALLY lucky to have been at the game. Moved to Western NC a while back and hadn't been to a game in over a year, so my wife grabbed some tickets for my birthday. Can't believe what we ended up seeing...
Side question for those of you who have been to Neyland: we ended up with a layer of dirt on our clothes that literally did not wash off. We think it might be related to the sunscreen spray we used but are also conscious that the stadium, cool as it may be atmosphere-wise, has some walkways that resemble a postapocalyptic prison camp. Anyone else have this happen...?

Could be boat fire residue.
btw... name a fan of any team that had a worse day than THAT guy. That is all time status right there for that fan.

Both good points.
I also now realize there's some sort of dumpster fire joke to be found in replying to my question. With all I've seen as a fan, however, I will not be the one to make the joke...

Georgia State fans: How many of you noticed the revolutionary defensive formations used by Pruitt? Literally playing a 2-7-3 defense? With 8 guys to one side of the formation?
Seeing some of the still shots, i'm flabbergasted

I'm happy for GSU fans and for Coach Elliott. I'm also pleased for Ellington the GSU QB. That kid took a beating at App last year and even though the game was basically over it the 4th quarter he continued to fight and had numerous chances to run out of bounds but instead put his head down and fought for every inch....he deserved a big win ( as long as it's not against App).

Watching the GSU Football Live with CSE and Dave Cohen...heard a story that is pretty telling about CSE's character.
At the end of the 4th quarter, GSU was in the field goal range. The assistant coaches said, "lets kick it, lets kick it" to run up the score above 40 points, creating a 3 score difference against UT. Shawn Elliott told his assistant coaches no... that there's no need, run the ball, burn some clock, and let's go home.
Remember not too long ago when Penn State called a petty timeout to kick a fieldgoal to finished the 56-0 blowout against us?

Seems pretty foolish tbh. You kick the FG and the game is officially over. As it was, Georgia State turned it over on downs with a minute left in the game only up 2 scores. Tennessee took too long on their scoring drive, but they were not far away from an onside kick and hail mary, which they HAVE completed against a team from Georgia quite recently.
It worked out, but the FG was the smart play.

I get what you're saying. Football God is fickle and anything could happen technically. Show no mercy until the end of regulation. As a fan, I wouldn't mind a final score of 41-23 against a SEC opponent.
But I can also sorta understand Elliott's gesture to leave some dignity for Pruitt after the 15 point lead with 46 seconds left in the 4th quarter.
I think the game was already over by the moment that CSE alluded to during the interview. UT offense couldn't sustain drives until GSU defense backed off into prevent defense with zero pressure. The prevent zone defense allowed UT's QB to save face and score a meaningless touchdown with 2 seconds left. Even if UT recovered the onside kick, they had to score another touchdown with 1 second left AND succeed a 2 point conversion just to tie the game. Mathematical chances of all those things happening perfectly was pretty slim.

I have seen a FG blocked and returned for a TD in such a situation, which leaves more time on the clock for the come from behind TD drive after a recovered onside kick or quickly forced punt. This is a risk coaches have to weigh given the feel of the game.

I watched part of the game and I thought I heard one of commentators say Elliott was Apps head coach when they knocked off Michigan. That's not right is it?

I can see playing for a field goal instead of a TD to keep the score down, but you should never not score when given the opportunity. Unless it's a victory formation type of situation. Too much of a chance that it could come back to bite you.

RE: Game Thread: Georgia State @ Tennessee
We are pretty good in special teams these days, but given all the insanity I’ve seen with special teams play over the years with GSU football—I’m talking about stuff you would be shocked to see at almost any level of football—I’m perfectly fine not attempting a field goal there. I’m just conditioned to think that way with this program.
