why would that matter? I should know better than to click on this board...so odd.

I'm guessing you don't have a daughter. My 13 year old is far more comfortable with the female staff at the practice then the men since her body is changing.

I trust my MD to be a professional...I'm not there to be comfortable, I'm there to keep my body running as long as possible.

That's great, I'm simply telling you why it would matter which is the question you posed.

Don't you know that the childless ALWAYS know the best way to raise your child?

I disagree with some other professionals here.

IMO, When a young woman needs to start seeing a gynecologist, she should begin that transition to a GP. Her OB/GYN will provide her most important care from then on anyway.
It's a little less clear for young men, but I'd still say around 13-15 should begin the transition.

The only reason to delay is those who have long-term childhood diseases

while i laughed at this response, my comment was actually serious. There is a HUGE maturity difference between a 13 yr old child and most adults, especially when it comes to reproductive issues. 13yr old girls aren't thinking about keeping their bodies running... they're thinking about not being odd/different while their bodies are going through tremendous changes that do nothing but make them feel odd and different.

It again falls back to those who are childless ALWAYS having the best advice about raising children.

You know, it seems people are funny with that stuff. My own mother never wanted a female Doc, Dentist? fine,Dr? Nope. Never cared enough to ask why. 07-coffee3

Well there are many adults, men and women, who also don't feel comfortable disrobing in front of a stranger of the opposite sex. There's nothing wrong with that feeling, no matter what Hollywood says.

Getting my nut cancer check by the female FNP at my doc group is not the most comfortable thing, but I am reassured by the fact I am probably not the most disgusting or most impressive she has ever seen 03-lmfao

Good comments

The sad think is my male provides won’t be alone with a woman for an investigation that involves ‘sensitive’ areas, no pun intended

Not everyone has faith in their providers

I think they almost always have two people there for anyone these days. Although I had a female provider who didn't bother with the aides after I'd been her patient for about a decade. Actually, that was more comfortable for me than having an aide there I didn't know.

We have 20 year old patients referred to us by pediatricians. I’m an adult acute care np and I’m not allowed to see patients under 16, so I feel that’s about the right age to stop seeing your pediatrician.

Whatever and whoever you are comfortable with is my answer.

There are med-peds trained generalists who are good, there are family practitioners who are good, there are IM generalists who are good...

Females should be introduced at puberty to OB/GYN. My girls have a generalist and an OB.

Males, its all over the place, generally recommend a good generalist around 16.

RE: Adults not cutting the cord on their Pediatricians
If a pediatrician is even minimally competent, they will tell the patient when it’s time to move on to another physician, and they will give a referral to the doctor they think is best-suited for the patient.
