I see what you did there...and that is funny.

What is not funny is that someone like Condoleezza Rice is actually considered a subject matter expert counted on to decide who makes the playoffs.

Nothing against, Rice...she has been a great public servant over the last 25 years, but she is not any more qualified to be involved with the playoffs than anyone on this board. Being a 'fan' doesn't make you an 'expert'. College football really needs to fix this, so that pre-season polls and 'fans' don't decide who has a chance to play for a championship.

If only there was some system that used computers to make these decisions that humans would clearly be biased on. Oh wait!! The BCS.. Which actually should have been what the playoff was based around. They just used the guaranteed NY6 slot to the other conferences, while decreasing the number of automatic qualifiers. Funny how it's impossible in the playoff system for more than one non AQ team to get to a big bowl, even though there's more slots available, than during the BCS. But now absolutely impossible for two at large bids from the G5 leagues to make it, due to the way the language in the contract is written.

EDIT: It only happened once in the BCS era when Boise and TCU both made the Fiesta Bowl in 2009, but it's not even possible now.

Count it as a success if you win 3 games. I don't think UConn even tries this season and just pumps resources into basketball. Move down to fcs in next 2-3 years to save money.

Fact is, until we see how Wimbush (or Dillon Gabriel) actually perform, we don't know what we have at QB. Wimbush is supposedly better on deep throws...and Heuple's system is far more about deep throws than short passes...so that could be good.

Our run game should be even better this year than last. Only lose one O-lineman I believe, which is a key to the running game. Plus, Wimbush as a runner gives you that "man advantage" coaches are always talking about.

At the offensive skill positions, I'll put our RB and WR units up against any team in the country...including Bama.

On defense, there is legitimate concern about the D-Line. All the positive pre-season talk is just that. We are deeper (can rotate more guys in to keep everyone more fresh) and more athletic (quicker) but have less bulk, so it remains to be seen how that turns out.

At LB, as was stated, we probably will be at least as good if not better because the new MLB is much more athletic. But Randy Shannon needs to fix our defensive scheme so we don't have MLB's chasing down receivers.

Defensive backfield overall is probably as good as any we have ever had at UCF.

That's slightly ironic since Heupel won a national title throwing a lot of short passes.

I am not sure if UCF is deserving due to all the changes and losses they have had on offense and defense the last two years. That is why pre-season polls suck.

With that said, this is not to bash UCF. They are just of deserving of getting the benefit of the doubt that P5 schools get all the time. It also is a nice tip of the hat to the AAC. I would have argued for Top 12 using that argument.

For UCF, their season's outlook is simple: will they get consistent QB play?

The fact that a starter hasn't been named yet, i.e. the ND transfer concerns a lot of UCF fans I know.

AAC is really wide open this year ...and the East is going to be a bear, again.

Yeah, but I miss the Diaco years.

Game has changed a lot over the past 15-20 yrs.

Heupel values space and ultra fast tempo, even if it means lower percentage downfield passing.

Spread the defense out and attack their weakness.

Alabama. Clemson. B1G champ. Better of the B12/PAC champs.

There ya go! No committee needed.

PS - If Notre Dame pulls off going undefeated against the Vanderbildts and Wake Forests of the world, then they get the #4 conference's champ's spot.

Nah, not really. UCF is 18-0 in the AAC over the past 2 years. Until someone actually beats us, it's UCF's to lose again.

That's incredibly impressive, but I still think you're wrong here. They have more competition this year than in the past and they don't have their all everything QB.

Were we missing that "all everything QB" too when we scored 56 point last year and romped over the team that everyone is convinced will go undefeated this year?

Wimbush and Gabriel will do just fine and I see no one with a plan to stop McCrae, Killins, and Anderson running behind the best OLine in the conference.

Apologies but the scoring will continue.

Who is convinced anyone in this league will go undefeated? Did that idiot Dodd guy suddenly become everyone? I'd say the mostly likely team to do it is still UCF, but the top of the league is stronger than its been in years and UCF has more questions than the last two seasons. Milton was incredible for them. He's not there and the door is open a bit for another talented team to step through.

I just hope that the league has a good showing out of conference. Even just the top half of the league getting some good wins OOC. That will say a lot regarding if the top part of the league is getting better or not.
