McNeill told the N&O Saturday by phone he would welcome such an invitation.

I think taking a knee against UCF and losing was the nail in the coffin.

And now they’re one of the worst football programs in the entire country. Congrats, ECU

Really bad Revenue Sports. A conference drain. If East Carolinas football program and basketball program played each other there's a good chance they'd both find a way 2 lose --- and no one would notice. The Fredo of the conference.

Must be hard to fire an alumni. He came from the Texas Tech / Mike Leach coaching tree. His offenses were pretty amazing, it’s just that darn defense was not good.

Ruffin should tell them to shove it. How bizarre.

Look, Ruff's firing is puzzling but there were cracks in the damn against him considering a lot of coaching snafus and falling off at the end of seasons. Now, do I think after going 5-7 and losing your 1st and 2nd string qbs 2 weeks before the season starts and nearly beating Florida in the Swamp and having a shot at 6-6 and a bowl would merit a firing at the end without a chance to fix the issues before the next season I would tell you no, we shouldn't have fired him that year but there was need for a turnaround.

The fact the AD fired him under very muddling circumstances and then proceeded to arguably hire his 5th choice for the replacement who turned out to be our worse coach in over a decade then yeah..... we f*d up royally. More so for his replacement completely crapping the bed with his own performance.

Knocking ECU football is kind of funny coming from a Memphis fan.... considering the Tigers hadn't been good in football in a long time and at that time ECU was good. Obviously over the last 4 years or so fortunes have reversed but....

Ruff was born in Eastern North Carolina. He played for ECU under Pat Dye, won a conference championship and played in a bowl back when there weren't too many. He's a Pirate through and through. His firing was a shock to everyone in the fan base, and now everyone responsible has left or been shown the door.

Too much history, fan support and fertile recruiting territory for ECU to stay down in football for long.

But I've noticed a trend among southern schools in that they fire perfectly serviceable coaches because they don't reach the most ambitious of goals - only to be replaced with a series of lesser coaches. Rabid boosters sometimes can't see the forest through the trees.

Bad decision to fire Ruff after that season. He deserved another. Everyone was scratching their heads in disbelief, except for the few jackasses that never liked Ruff from the beginning for whatever reasons. Everyone should have taken notice at that point that Compher was an absolute moron and he was steering our ship down the toilet. We hoped after the firing disaster that the Scottie Mo hire was going to be surprisingly golden, but deep down we all knew it was destined for failure. Thankfully all of this has passed like a bad case of diarrhea and we get on with some real Pirate football. Class move by Coach Houston and his staff to reach out to him and make amends this way.

He survived that season and beat UCF 44-7 the following year. We had poor leadership that allowed a few who didn't like Ruff to make the call. I hope they're happy now.

Don't doubt the ineptitude of "East" Carolina.

We have completely replaced our leadership from Chancellor to AD to Head Coach in Football and Basketball (Both men and women). I think that "ineptitude" has ended.
