Overall, this seems reasonable. I am sure some will complain about not being included, fine, but mention who you would boot for your inclusion.

Marquette hasn't lost a game in sixty years. I'm outraged.

I'm biased, admittedly, but I might drop Georgia Southern and consider adding Tennessee State. I'm seeing only one HBCU program (Grambling) on the list, which seems odd. TSU was a beast for many years (while still to this day sending players to the NFL and drawing good crowds at times).

In fairness, I'm a clueless boob regarding Georgia Southern football.

How's CMU ahead of Colorado? Grand Valley State being left off is pretty bad, too.

Colorado has been up and down.

I haven't read the original article, but just glancing at this list it appears to follow the classic list formula. It has a reasonable foundation, with some entries thrown in largely to spark argument and/or debate. Or in other words, engagement.

I would think Pitts nine titles and Minnesota 6 MSU six would be higher.
I get Mount Union since their disregarding level and NDSU having 12 titles in two divisions.
Boise with one Junior college and one FCS seems high GVSU would be above them.
Along with Georgia Southern maybe App st.

RE: ESPN: The 50 best college football programs over 150 years
We have to look at the over all picture. NCAA finally had their first spilt in 1956 between college and university division. So all the schools including schools in D2, D3, NAIA and NJCAA would be including. NJCAA was formed in 1938, but before then, NJCAA schools were in the same conferences as 4 year schools. The JC military schools were good examples of that.

Linfield did win some football conference titles before the 1920s over schools that are now in the PAC 12, Idaho and Montana.

D2 Oklahoma schools did won some conference titles over Oklahoma State and Tulsa.

Mount Union, St. John's Minn. and Wittenberg appeared in the AP polls back in the 1930s which we now could call FBS polls. There are some D3 schools that have been crowned as co-champs back in 1930s with the big names like Centre.
