You won 2 Div-II titles in the 80s and have a .570 historical record (47th in current FBS teams).

Troy had a 79% win percentage during their decade-stay in 1AA. Since segregation, Troy has had a 64% win percentage with 2 Div II national titles and 16 conference titles. Plus the NAIA national title from 1968 if that counts?

Yeah Troy is definitely great. They just lack anything to outcompete the other teams in the top 50. I'm an App fan so that's what I know most about but app has

- 3 FCS National Championships
- 21 Conference Titles
- 64.2% All Time Win Percentage (15th all time)
- 4-0 Bowl Record
- 35-6 Sun Belt Record
- 13 Double Digit Win seasons
- 8th winningest D1 Program since 2000

I'm not sure if they look at series records but App holds series leads vs every G5 or FCS opponent they've ever played more than 3 times except Furman....including the entire sun belt. And Georgia Southern I believe has 6 national titles and the 16th best win percentage in D1 all time. So it would be hard for any other sun belt team to maneuver themselves into these rankings. I think after app, georgia southern and troy (and coastal but they are very new) every sun belt team has a losing record all time.

Troy to my knowledge would be a step below in almost every category. But they are def a top G5 now. And undoubtedly the 3rd biggest program in the sun belt. Def a team to fear. Worried about that game at Troy myself...could be our 1st or 2nd toughest opponent.

I don't know about a step below... in comparison to App State:

- 3 National Championships (1 NAIA, 2 Div II)
- 21 Conference Titles
- 57.0% All-Time Win Percentage (47th all-time)
- 5-3 Bowl Record
- 75-39 Sun Belt Record
- 13 Double Digit Win seasons

In either case, I think this reflects well on App State and Georgia Southern and shows the heart of both programs for football success. Well deserved to be in this feature by ESPN.

The same folks that go "Back in my day......."

A couple reasons. FBS is dysfunctional. No real playoff, some teams play 8 home games and some have 5 or 6 and top teams never play on the road against G5 schools. Alabama hasn't left the southeast in many years.

I still like to watch my Huskies play the big schools, but it could be a lot better.

Dysfunctional is relative. I'd rather be "dysfunctional" than playing in a league with less resources, less talent, less fan support, less of venues, less visibility, less potential, and less recognition for performance. No need to reference NDSU. We've been there. How's that recognition for making the FCS semifinals? Win several NATIES and we may take you seriously.

For the record: TXST's all-time winning % is better than 50%. Somewhere around 52-53%. Our D1 record is definitely below .500 though.
