Per 247: Tyler Beard, a 6-foot-2 guard at Chicago (Ill.) Whitney Young, picked Georgetown over California, Maryland, Texas A&M and Florida Atlantic.
Per 247: DePaul gets Keon Edwards (SF) in Class of 2021. Had offers from lots of quality programs:

For Beard, kind of a crazy group of finalists....
On paper and considering geographic factors ... agree.

NY Post Sanogo UConn Article
It feels good not to be missing on all of our top targets anymore. The Big East move is definitely proving to have been the right decision from a basketball recruiting standpoint. Now time for Hurley to get us back in contention for conference championships and in NCAA tourney.

So pumped about this. A legitimate top 25 squad with this addition. Now if we get a waiver for Martin and the season goes off as planned, we're primed to do some real damage again

247 updated their rankings today. 3 Big East schools (Marquette, UConn, X in order) in the Top 20 composite.

Gardner-Webb transfer, Jose Perez, just committed to Marquette. He's a 6-5 guard that averaged 15.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists a game last year as a sophomore. As a freshman, Perez averaged 15.1 points game shot nearly 45-percent from the field.

I take it he's a likely sit? Or is he one of those guys who has sat a year or two already and still has 2 years of eligibility?
Solid pickup

Congrats to Marquette. Memphis wanted him so that's a blow to my Tigers. I wish him well in a Golden Eagles uniform.

Sit one, play two. He has played two full seasons, so he has two remaining.

Thanks, Bill.
We are now up to, I believe, one available scholarship this year. That is likely being held for Karim Mane (who will likely choose to go the pro route), or an unexpected reclassification recruit. We will most likely end up saving it for next year.
Assuming Carton can be immediately eligible (and that's a big if, considering the NCAA is all over the place in those immediate waivers), we would look like this for next year:
PG Carton
SG McEwen
SF Bailey
PF Garcia
C John
F Cain
G Elliott
G Torrence
G Akanno
F Lewis
F Ighodaro
RS: G Perez
With Carton, I would project MU as a first four out-level team (likely NIT team). Without Carton, I think we would struggle to even be an NIT team. Very little production coming back, and not enough high impact freshmen ready to contribute.

RE: Big East Recruiting Update
I see that Rivals has Marquette, Xavier, UConn and Butler in its top 30 for recruiting classes. GU at No. 43. Very solid for the league this year.

247 added rankings for Creighton's two foreign commits and they're now in the top 30 as well. (To be fair, 247 has Butler outside the top 30 though)

Even if Butler is in the 247 top 50 (I haven't looked), that's good for the BE. Seems this will shape us as a very, very good (though likely not outstanding) recruiting haul for the conference.
The SEC with eight of Rivals top 30 at this point. Hands down the best league performance. I recall the days (not that long ago it seems) when the SEC was very so-so in men's hoops (coaches, recruiting, fan interest). It's impressive how the league has elevated its profile in only about eight years. As long as I don't have to listen too much to the blowhard SEC fanboys here in Nashville (once everybody gets back out and socializing some), I'll be fine. Otherwise, ... it could be rough. Those folks can be brutal.
