Yeah, half way through season I would have had him #1 by a long shot.
He never was the same after the La Tech loss.
Have to look at the defenses he was playing against at that point
Tech (allowed 23ppg)
Rice (26) while their offense sucked they played decent dee all season
UAB (18.5)
Western (20)
FAU (23.7)
That is the top 2 teams in the west and the top 2 teams in the east

RE: PFF: 2019 Starting QB Rankings
In terms of passing yardage 9,000+ and passing TDs 50 J'Mar Smith is the #3 and #4 ranked QB in Louisiana Tech's history. He also has 11 rushing TDs and his 20 INTs are nowhere near the school's top 10 list. Our fans' collective commentary on him has been somewhere between 'totally misinformed' and 'absolutely absurd'.

Even with all that experience, Smith had proven to be a middle of the pack QB and I felt like he regressed some last year. He was definitely the toughest case to pick. But he clearly had his best year this season.
You picked CUSA 7 QB’s before Smith, all had less experience(except Fine) and nowhere near the stats of JMar. He threw for 3,000 yards in 2017 and 2018. 16 TD and 5 picks in 2017. How is that middle of the pack for CUSA? On top of that he has strongest arm in CUSA.
Maybe you were listening to clueless fans on message board talking about JMar but he was nowhere near 8th in CUSA even in preseason.
How? I'm more than happy to answer that question. Thank you for the opportunity. Smith's ratings prior to this season...
2017: 10th
2018: 9th
I actually gave him more credit than he deserved because he wasn't even middle but toward the bottom. I also actually afforded him a higher spot than he had ever achieved. I made it very clear back at the beginning of the season that I was making my predictions based on passer efficiency rating. Smith - IMO - outperformed everyone's expectations and far exceeded anything he had done previously both in terms of efficiency and leading the offense.
Lets see:
7th Asher Ohara - 114 yds 0 TD 1 Int
JMar - 6,546 yards 33 TDs 16 INT
6th Isiah Green - 2459 yds 15 TD 10 INT
JMar - 6,546 yards 33 TDs 16 INT
5th Chris Robinson - 2533 yds 12 TD 12 INT
JMar - 6,546 yards 33 TDs 16 INT
4th Tyler Johnston III - 1323 yds 11 TD 9 INT
JMar - 6,546 yards 33 TDs 16 INT
3rd Jack Abraham - 2347 yds 15 TD 10 INT
JMar - 6,546 yards 33 TDs 16 INT
Do you see how ridiculous your preseason ratings were? None of those QB’s come anywhere close to JMar.
Nice try though
If we only rank them based on who had more experience coming into the season what would the point of that be?
Smith was 9th and 10th his previous two years. I actually had more reason/more data to rank him where I did than just about anyone else.

Man, you Tech fans are almost as bad as wkcc. Call your QB the best in the league and still can't get the corn cob out of your ass over the preseason prediction.
BTW, using QBR - which takes into account all of the QB's production - Smith was only fifth. Asher was second. So, enjoy that.

Thank you for pointing this out. I was going to say that looking at Reynolds’ passing numbers alone and taking away over half of his skillset isn’t a reflection of the value he brings to our offense at that position. He’s very dynamic and his ability to run (especially in this late season streak) has been vital to any success we’ve had.

Not sure exactly where the numbers are coming from. Looks like career numbers for Jmar compared to partial season stats for others? Let me help with season stats;
Jack Abraham
3,329 Yds 18 Tds 15 Ints 75 RushY 5 Td
J'Mar Smith
2814 Yds 17 Tds 4 Ints 230 RushY 3 Td
This is with 2 fewer games for J'Mar. I'll take J'Mar

The comparisons are the same - QB Collegiate stats preseason (not including this season)
Yes MTTp rated a QB with 114 yards before JMar

Chris Robison is not the top C-USA QB. But he has, certainly improved on his last season's numbers: 2018: 12 TDs, 12 INTs. 2019: 21 TDs, 5 INTs.

It amazes me that Tyler Johnston has dropped back over 200 times and has yet to throw it away.

What teams started senior QB’s this fall? I know if we don’t get better QB play in 2020, we’ll be lucky to reach .500.

Very excited that Chris Reynolds is only a sophomore along with pretty much all of his WRs (Victor Tucker, Rico Arnold, Cameron Dollar).

Imperative at the G5 level.
I said preseason that it was all up to JMar if Tech wins CUSA, and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Tech would be 11-1 Top 25 and playing in the CUSA championship if JMar would have played.

Yep, just need to make sure we cobble together an oline that can protect him next year. I don't know what we look like there next season, I just know we lose clark, which is a big loss.
The rest of the offense should be very talented, but it all falls apart without protection.

Reynolds tore out Marshall and Middles’s souls on time killing 4th quarter drives with leads. That kind of thing is insanely valuable but will never show up on a stat sheet or efficiency rating.
