You have to get something that works for you and stick with it. The C-paw works.
Yeah, yeah, I know. Anyone who thinks it's Chic-fil-a isn't a sports fan anyway, so I think we need not be concerned about that.
However, residing in a place where every red shirt has an "O" on it, it's refreshing to get to a UC game and see the friendly C-paw on everything. Trust me on that.
You need only to look at the Browns. They made a huge mistake and went away from what works for them. I have yet to talk to a Browns fan that likes their new ...marketing oriented … uniforms. They all want the old plain, yet iconic, uniforms back.
Yep. We're very fortunate to have a recognizable brand.
There's a LOT of other schools that start with C. We could be stuck with something that doesn't set us apart like Creighton:
On the other hand, we should be grateful that we didn't differentiate ourselves with an unrecognizable logo like Clemson:
And at least we don't start with "M." Michigan always gets confused with a local high school team.
Which one is Miami, and which one is Milford?
Is this Marshall or McNicholas?
Would anyone recognize this helmet outside Akron?

It's so godd@mn beautiful.
The older versions of this same helmet that still had the red fleck in it that you only notice close up were my favorite. Give me all black all day over every other look honestly.

Love the C-Paw - the "new" one. One of the most recognizable logos in college sports. I like iterative changes to the unis, and the throwbacks are nice, but the C-Paw needs to stay. I'd be fine with a throwback uni with an old logo but the C-Paw as the norm is great and everybody knows what team they are watching when the flip the channel.

I'm with you. That glossy black helmet with the C-paw is as close to iconic as anything in UC's football gear. I'd prefer it be used ten out of twelve games every season.

If I ever had enough money to get a car custom painted that's exactly what I would do. Red metallic flecks but looks black from far away.

OK, I admit to watching some of the Red's game last night, but only the top of the 9th.
However, when they got two outs and that... massive... crowd rose to it's feet to cheer on the mighty Redlegs, the TV broadcast showed three different crowd shots, back to back to back.
In those three quick shots I saw FOUR people in UC, C-paw gear.
Not "Cincinnati", not "UC", not "Bearcats" gear... C-paw gear. It's our brand's trademark.

Pretty cool story. I love the Reds, but when I attend I'm wearing a red UC polo.
When I was an undergraduate at UC, you could walk around campus all day and not see anyone wearing the brand. And you'd never see UC attire at Riverfront Stadium (now I sound really old).
We've come a long way as a University and as an athletic program in a few short decades. The best is yet to come.

Was at Kohl's and JC Penny off Fields-Ertel last night. The selection of UC gear there was atrocious. Kohl's had a couple ugly shirts made by Champion (didn't even have the C-paw), had a ton of tOSU and XU gear. JC Penny didn't even have any UC apparel, but had plenty of tOSU and XU.
Call me a Neanderthal, but I really hate that if I want UC clothing I have to drop $40 for a t-shirt, $85 for a pullover, etc. that I can only seem to get at the campus bookstore or through an on-line purchase. I am a huge fan, but the wife isn't always understanding when we have other priorities with our dollars.

Yep.
This was the helmet logo when I first attended there:
When I got to UC I had a couple of friends on the team and they got me one of these helmet stickers.
I put it on my car. People laughed at me.
We have come a long way.

Target and meijer usually have a good selection of reasonably priced UC gear.

That's really concerning as it would suggest retailers have pulled back on UC clothing at the wrong time with football rising and potentially new energy around men's and women's basketball. Not that Under Armour is or should be the only game in town but it appears they may be really late delivering product to big box retail stores. If that's so, and the campus bookstore has an arrangement with UA to get first shot with new product (just speculation), I think that's a poor decision that will reduce sales in the broader retail market.

This is all stuff that I've complained about for years when it comes to the branding and licensing department. I know that they want to protect the brand but they should be making it easier, NOT HARDER, to get UC products out there to continue to expand the Bearcats brand in the world! The way they handle things makes absolutely no sense to me, and I know a lot of it is probably mixed up in legal jargon and contracts. If you look at other big time schools you'd be able to find way more products in retailers all throughout their cities. I don't know if it goes back to the stores, the apparel providers or all the way back to the university but this needs to get fixed. Casual fans rocking a t-shirt here and there helps build the brand and those of us die hards would spend even more on some things if they were available. Tell me how this is not a good thing for everyone involved.

I have also found Meijer to have a good selection of UC clothing. Some local Walmart stores are getting better.
