Cincinnati-area players in FBS
I recall that Brian Kelly once said something like, "Ohio State could fill an entire recruiting class with Cincinnati-area kids, and there will still be enough left over to win the Big East."

The Enquirer just published a list of the 162 local players on FBS rosters. I think it's mostly within the 275 boundary, plus Butler, Warren, & Clermont Counties.
https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/...928423001/

Here's the breakdown by school:

Top P5 Schools - 24 players
10 - Ohio State
4 - Michigan State
2 - Clemson
2 - Notre Dame
2 - Penn State
1 - Auburn
1 - Michigan
1 - Nebraska
1 - Tennessee

Mid-range P5 schools - 21 players
4 - Northwestern
4 - Purdue
3 - Iowa State
2 - Boston College
2 - Pitt
2 - West Virginia
1 - Louisville
1 - Vanderbilt
1 - Virginia
1 - Wisconsin

Lower-level P5 schools - 20 players
10 - Kentucky
6 - Indiana
1 - Illinois
1 - Kansas
1 - Maryland
1 - Minnesota

American and Mountain West Conference - 36 players
29 - Cincinnati (a number of these are probably walk-ons)
4 - Navy
3 - Air Force

And there's 61 other players at MAC, C-USA, and Sun Belt schools. 17 of these are at Miami.

Breakdown by class:
Freshmen - 65
Sophomore - 38
Junior - 36
Senior - 23

F south Florida.

If UC only got every guy from the Cincinnati/NKY area we would be a top 10 team every year.

This current class is currently chipping away at the "Mid-Range and Lower-Level P5" numbers. We've even taken a couple guys who were being pursued by Michigan State.

If someone backs up the Brinks Truck and we manage to keep the current staff the numbers will look a lot different in 2-3 years.

Interesting...not criticism but my thoughts
1) I would include Wisconsin in the top if mich st is there
2) I would move Kentucky to middle tier since Louisville and WV are there. Even though historically they are trash, they have recruited well (especially Cincy/Ohio) for the last 15 years or so (at least however long Vince Marrow has been there. F that guy’s recruiting abilities).

Those are good points. I was just aiming for broad numbers.

The point is that there's a ton of local talent. If somehow they were all on the same team they'd probably compete for a national title.

I remember watching the 30 for 30 about The U. They mentioned that the reason Miami took off was the local talent stayed home. I always hope one day we can do the same.

Of course, the criteria seem completely subjective, but I don't get why MSU seems to get so much respect by a few folks around here. I can see putting them in the same tier as Wisconsin, whichever tier that is, but I'd put Wisconsin higher head to head.

Anyway, if we are talking exclusively about Greater Cincinnati recruits, I'd put OSU and ND (surprised they only have 2 currently) in the top tier that we would typically have a hard time winning battles with. Given their current status, you could probably add Alabama and Clemson to the tier but they aren't hitting this area hard. After that, I'd put UC in with basically all of the other regional P5 schools as Tier 2. We won't win them all but we'll take our fair share and we don't need to back off at all just because any of them are our competition. Tier 3 is pretty much the rest of the AAC and the G5. We should get our local man in most cases if those programs are the competition. The rest are basically P5 outliers that are more case by case as they rarely attempt to get involved locally given the above competition.

But I think the main point is there is plenty of talent here and we'll be able to compete with just about anybody nationally with good coaching if we can load up on the T2 and T3 guys as I described above that fit what we want to do.

I'm both relieved and excited about Coach Fick and his staff's ability to recruit locally after the prior regime burned some bridges. I can only imagine how we will recruit with more winning seasons in the bag and this staff staying on for a longer period than we've seen since Dantonio was hired. Recruiting is a lot about building trust and relationships with recruits, their families, and their coaches. This staff has that part nailed down for sure.

I'd be more interested in seeing how many of these recruits planned out. Hit rate is just as important as getting them in the door.

I might add this staff's ability to recruit the State of Cincinnati, er, Ohio as well. Tavion from Dayton and Truck Warren from Toledo just to name a few beyond the I-275 belt...

Dayton is a huge one for this staff. Dantonio got some guys but even BK and Butch did not put much of a dent recruiting the Miami Valley.

Agree completely about the Miami Valley and I'm hoping UC will develop an overall strategy beyond player recruitment to engage alumni and fans in that part of southwest OH.

If we are becoming one metro statistical area with Dayton, it's the next logical step in expanding our program's footprint outside of I-275.

Yeah but in order to get enough hits you need to get a bunch of these guys in the door. Hit ratio is important but if you don't get enough in the door the hit ratio you'd need would be unsustainable.

Aren't Mickens and Freeman both from the Dayton area. Not that others cannot make connections but it is good to have guys from one of the areas that we need to recruit.

Yes they both from Huber Heights and went to Wayne High School. They have been instrumental in getting the better talent from the Miami Valley on campus. There is a ton of mid to high level talent coming out of Wayne, Trotwood-Madison, Northmont, Centerville and (extended it a little further out) Springfield every year. Need to keep getting those type of guys into the fold.

We've pulled some serious talent from Dunbar, and been in on all of their top level talent over the last few years as well.

A lot of kids drop football if they're not good enough to start. Look at the bottom of the Original Post - there's almost 3 times as many freshman as seniors. That's pretty typical for most teams.

Here's the breakdown by year for the top teams on the list. Some schools list 4th year players who have graduated separately from seniors:

Cincinnati - 52 freshmen, 26 sophomores, 26 juniors, 5 seniors, 11 grad students
Ohio State - 35 freshmen, 30 sophomores, 29 juniors, 21 seniors, 7 grad students
Notre Dame - 28 freshmen, 35 sophomores, 29 juniors, 14 seniors, 6 grad students
Michigan State - 48 freshmen, 25 sophomores, 30 juniors, 17 seniors
Miami (OH) - 48 freshmen, 21 sophomores, 21 juniors, 19 seniors
Kentucky - 37 freshmen, 26 sophomores, 25 juniors, 14 seniors
Indiana - 54 freshmen, 26 sophomores, 18 juniors, 4 seniors

Yes, Indiana only has 4 seniors this year!
