Yeah but in order to get enough hits you need to get a bunch of these guys in the door. Hit ratio is important but if you don't get enough in the door the hit ratio you'd need would be unsustainable.
Thus why I said it's just as important and not more important
A lot of kids drop football if they're not good enough to start. Look at the bottom of the Original Post - there's almost 3 times as many freshman as seniors. That's pretty typical for most teams.
Here's the breakdown by year for the top teams on the list. Some schools list 4th year players who have graduated separately from seniors:
Cincinnati - 52 freshmen, 26 sophomores, 26 juniors, 5 seniors, 11 grad students
Ohio State - 35 freshmen, 30 sophomores, 29 juniors, 21 seniors, 7 grad students
Notre Dame - 28 freshmen, 35 sophomores, 29 juniors, 14 seniors, 6 grad students
Michigan State - 48 freshmen, 25 sophomores, 30 juniors, 17 seniors
Miami (OH) - 48 freshmen, 21 sophomores, 21 juniors, 19 seniors
Kentucky - 37 freshmen, 26 sophomores, 25 juniors, 14 seniors
Indiana - 54 freshmen, 26 sophomores, 18 juniors, 4 seniors
Yes, Indiana only has 4 seniors this year!
