Heir to the throne
The ACC has several old coaches that will likely hang it up soon:
Jim Larranaga - UM
Roy Williams - UNC
Jim Boeheim - SU
Leonard Hamilton - FSU
Dracula - Duke
Any names that stick out as successor to these programs?
I would not mind someone in the LH coaching tree. FSU is not likely to make a splash hire and there is no reason to fix what is not broken. Stan Jones is LH’s top assistant and usually gets credited with developing the Bigs. Dennis Gates just left for Cleveland St., I hope that dumpster fire is not a career killer, but he is a good recruiter. The other guy I’m thinking of is Andy Enfield who was a former assistant, did a great job at Florida Gulf Coast and is now the head coach at USC.
1 Andy Enfield
2 Stan Jones
3 Dennis Gates

The ACC really needs to get Shaka Smart and Billy Donovan when/if they become available.

UNC is Esayem's job if he wants it. They always hire within.
As soon as he makes UCLA forget about John Wooden, I'm sure Cronin will slide right in there at Dook to replace Krizooski and not miss a beat.
SU doesn't have to worry about replacing gramps. He's actually a robot they bought from Westworld.
As far as da U's next basketball coach... well, I mean, does it really matter?

I would keep an eye on Wes Miller (UNC-G) as a possible Roy Williams replacement in 8-10 years.

You think Ol’ Roy is going to last another 8-10 years?

I understand UNC has the orthopedics folks at their med school working on a device that will allow Roy to coach on one knee to mitigate his vertigo problem. That should buy him a few more years.

Don't forget Bill Self. Kansas/UNC revolving door.
Cross-pollination at all levels between UNC and Kansas is akin to the Hapsburgs

Not to mention the Habsburg jaw problem caused by inbreeding.

Are you talking Hapsburgs or Shade and Bernedette?
No one is getting the job that does not know how the booster money system works and how dumb jocks are taken care of and had a past hand in it.
The biggest difference between Duke and UNC is that Duke can pay more after the fact and therefor need less cash upfront. UNC typically targets the mother with employment or a home near Chapel Hill. Duke pays off with post playing investment dollars.
It makes for tough competition.
It's rare that Carolina does not have a hook into the family years before matriculation. Preachers, doctors, pharmacists, dentists, lawyers, high school educators - lots of points of contract and points of influence. One of the reasons Fedora is gone is because he pissed on that system.

I really hope Jerry Stackhouse does well at Vandy. I’d like to see somebody that played or coached under Dean Smith. Also, Mr. Stackhouse makes a mean hamburger.

NC State pays players in cow patties. Gottfried had to go because his style of dress made the farmhands uncomfortable.

The irony of Cow Tech fans referencing the Hapsburgs.

Hubert, Wes or Stackhouse will be at the top of the list.

What about Gregg Marshall at Wichita State? He is from SC originally and coached at Winthrop for a long time. Obviously he has been successful.

Didn't Beoheim's number 1 assistant head to Washington a couple of years ago to lead that program? He did pretty well last year, if memory serves.
Would he have any interest in going back to Syracuse?

I thought his #1 assistant went to prison?
I'm sure he would love to be out of prison, prowling courtside.

Sorry, Garrett. Your thread seems to have become a smack talk forum instead of a serious discussion about coaching succession in hoops. I apologize for getting caught up in that. It is a serious topic, worth discussing seriously.

Mike Hopkins is almost certainly Syracuse AD's first call. The only question in my mind is whether the Orange made a mistake letting him get away to Washington when they let Boeheim backtrack on his retirement.
