Werts claimed the white residue was bird poop and that he has tried to wash it off his car earlier. The officer report did acknowledge that the residue looked like it has been smeared by a wiper. It did test positive for cocaine although we know the issues that come with those field tests.

Also Shai attempted to drive to a well lit area before pulling over. Sounds like the cop was just aggravated that Shai didn’t pull over immediately and was looking for a reason to get him in trouble.

According to an incident report from the Saluda County Sheriff's Office, Werts, 21, was clocked going 80 mph in Saluda the night of July 31.

After several attempts to pull his vehicle over, during which he reportedly called 911 to say he planned to drive closer into town to a more well-lit area, Werts was charged with speeding.

Authorities then say they noticed a white substance on the hood of his car that twice tested positive for cocaine. According to the report, Werts said it was bird poop and he had attempted to wash it off at a car wash in Newberry days earlier.

The report indicated the substance that tested positive for cocaine did appear to have been wiped by windshield wipers and wiper fluid. This sounds fishy as hell. If he's innocent I hope he gets reinstated quickly enough.

Orrrr cleaning products can cause a false positive result on a field test kit, which was also indicated on that report I posted earlier.

That is categorically untrue. However, I find it hard that a police officer couldn't discern bird sh** from cocaine residue. I also happen to like the idea of seeing Werts back in his freshman year form in Boone this season.

I understood the hype Southern fans had in beating App last season, but you did so without two of the best players (most important) playing beyond the first quarter. I'd rather see both teams with their full compliment of talent ready to go this season to grow the rivalry. Werts provides that revenge factor considering how well he played in the game following Fehr's exit.

However, this is outside of football and I prefer not to demonize the police just because you don't like the result here. Is it possible that they got two false positives? Sure. But is there evidence to show that false positives have been caused by cleaning agents? It isn't that difficult to get bird sh** off a car either, even when it's been baked on there in the heat that we had a few weeks ago.

Also, what does Southern's experience behind Werts look like?

He didn't say indefinitely - he said intermittently - meaning there is the likelihood that this is only temporary. For Shai that's likely true, not soo much for Quan though who has a LOT of charges against him.
