We would like to be in a conference with those teams, we could sell out our new upcoming stadium on a regular basis with teams like Troy, Southern Miss, UAB, Marshall, etc coming to Mobile every year. I think some of the fan base didn't go to Ladd and probably this year because the city didn't get onboard with a deal with USA for our new stadium. All that will be better with a new OCS football stadium, a renovated basketball arena should help.

Swap JMU for USM and it tightens things up a bit while strengthening the rivalries. Maybe I am wrong here, but USM views itself as a more "western" based school and would do better being part of a Texas centric conferernce. USM fans, chime in?

Keep in mind, football sucked but basketball could and did compete in those days. Now it's flopped. I do think the city can support both if the BKB team shows some signs of life. Getting back to those big numbers would take winning conference and going a round or 2 in the NCAA. I don't see that happening any time soon.

The best 5 years of stAte hoops from a quality of play standpoint started while football was still decent, near the end of the 1-AA stint. Top attendance average was 6,643 per game in 88-89. That was in the middle of the 4 NITs in 5 years run.
Wins at Iowa, at Stanford, at Memphis. Home wins against LSU and Houston not long after their final four appearances.

Personally on board with this if there was going to be a realignment.

I think JMU would join that conference.

Three great football rivalries (Ga Sou, Marsha, JMU) and an App home football game every year vs UNCC.
