There are 7 BB conferences that matter. The Big East is one of them. The AAC is also one of them.

What the Big East has going for it is balance. It is a competitive league.

The problem the AAC has is with it's cellar. Tulane, ECU, SMU... are not good

SMU has been a top three AAC team since the league started. The American’s problem is inconsistent teams the can’t seem to sustain success.

I think Hunter will turn around Tulane. ECU has a good coach. The problem with the league is UCF is going to be trash, Temple is alway up and down, Memphis despite the number 1 class loses everyone from the previous year so I am not ready crown them champs, Wichita State is all the way back yet, Tulsa and SMU seem stuck in the middle again, USF had to take next step. UC and Houston should be good, different rosters but still NCAA tournament teams.

You can't lump SMU with that group. They had a down year last year, finishing 107 kenpom. In the five years before they finished 84, 11, 16, 26 and 31. SMU has been far from the problem.

UCF won't be what they were last season, but I'd be stunned if they were "trash". Likely a top 100 kenpom type team.
