WKU would be my choice ... old timers (some still around) will never forgive EMU for killing this deal about 20 years ago.

(don't ask ... it's a looooong inside story and nobody of stature still around to legitimize it or be held accountable).

In addition to the above, a partnership with UCONN and UMASS, Indiana St, and Illinois St could each be interesting too.

Marshall.

If Marshall declined, I would stick with 11. With CCG’s looking like they’ll be allowed for 11 (AAC), there’s no incentive for 12 unless it’s a home run add. Let’s each get a larger share of CFP and NCAA payouts, keep travel costs down, and play each other marginally more.

Marshall, WKU, Temple? If you are going to go for schools in conferences that the MAC likely cannot raid, why not go for UC?

Including Temple in that list is heading out past Kit-Kat boisterous optimism territory and heading toward DavidSt. territory.

My evil sneaky plan would be to get Wisconsin-Whitewater to move up to Division I - it expands our footprint by a state, but not much in travel distances. They've had a lot of success in Division III. They're big for a Division III school, with 12,000 students, but a small for the MAC. Just 45 miles southwest of Milwaukee. Wisconsin is under-represented in Division I football, so there'll be added recruiting opportunities.

Hard pass. The last thing this league needs is another Ohio university.

Is Cleveland saying Western Kentucky was considered in the 1997 expansion but Eastern Michigan blocked it? I never heard any of that.

WKU, UMass, or Marshall if one MAC school drops.
If two are added, some combinations of interest include WKU/MTSU, WKU/Marshall, and UMass/Delaware.

RE: Who would you add if the MAC lost a school?
The MAC isn't the B1G. They can't just hand pick whatever team from other conferences and know said school with accept. I'm going to operate under the assumption that C-USA and the SunBelt would view the MAC as a lateral move and therefore wouldn't have any interest of joining. I've seen some fairly good recommendations from the rest of you. My top choices of schools that I feel would strongly consider joining would be JMU, NDSU, Illinois St., and UMass. I know UMass already turned down the MAC once and still might again, however, the A-10 has gotten weaker in basketball while the MAC has been improving so the gap between the two has narrowed.

RE: Who would you add if the MAC lost a school?
If we had one opening and I was MAC commissioner, I would first contact Marshall (all sports) and Army (football only) and sound them out. If either of them wanted in, I'd bring them in without a lot of fuss.

I'd also talk to North Dakota State. They aren't close, but that football program is amazing. I think we'd have to bring them in if they wanted in.

If none of these schools, I'd probably look at James Madison.

All this assumes *one* opening. I think if we were to try to bring in UMass we need another school out that way, whether it be UConn (football only), Stony Brook (all sports), or someone else.

I'm not against Illinois State, but I'm not sold, either.

Probably Illinois State; their profile resembles a lot of current MAC schools.

If they were able to restart their football program, UW-Milwaukee could be a great add. They'd expand the footprint to a major media market an additional state without horribly increasing average travel times.

JMU would be the only good option that'd accept an invite imo, only out of a desire to move up to FBS. If we could pull in any G5 schools, I'd go with this order: UC, Marshall, WKU, then Temple.

The premise is that the MAC lost a school, which would probably be Kent, so YSU would be a worthy replacement but I would still prefer Marshall for the bad blood rivalries.

RE: Who would you add if the MAC lost a school?
It completely depends on who leaves.

If there is an opening in the east I'd say Marshall. That opening would probably be from Akron dropping down or Buffalo moving on. Both scenarios however are very unlikely.

If the opening is in the west I'd say Illinois St. They are the logical replacement for NIU if they were to leave. If Toledo is gone there is no point in shifting BG to the west so might as well bring in another western school.

The school that I mentioned a lot by the MAC fans is WKU but they are real happy in CUSA 3.0.

YSU will never get a MAC invite.

Probably be Kent? Based on what? With 29,000 students on the main campus, Kent is certainly not going to be forced out of FBS, and with Kent's football performance it's certainly not going to get an invite to a raided AAC ... rather then being the most likely to leave, it seems like one of the schools least likely to leave.

Kent seems the least prominent in football and most likely to cut football to focus on their other very good sports teams. I could def see Kent going the way of a Wichita State and funding the heck out of basketball, golf, baseball etc. The football culture just isn't there as of 2019. They are improving in football... But their coaches all bolt after flash in a pan... It's not that Kent isn't good enough for the MAC, it's that they could have better options taking football out of the equation. Ball State and EMU are the only schools more likely to leave and that would be for funding reasons. This is all moot though. No one is leaving the safest, most stable league in FBS.
