ODU'S NEW STADIUM - COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF
With 42 days to kickoff, the push is on to complete the revitilization of S. B. Ballard Stadium. We remain on schedule, but it looks like it will be a close race. Turf is going down while seats continue to be installed and other work goes on underneath the stands. I will post pictures every couple of days or so.

And how many seats did the Monarchs add in this revitalization?

Although stadium capacity goes from 19K+ to 21K+, this remake is more to provide comfort and modern amenities that patrons have been missing all these years. Plans exist to quickly turn up capacity to aporox. 30K should the need arise, and perhaps even higher as demand picks up. We are excited!

Although it is still too small, it does look nice. 04-cheers

Also the main structure before was not up to modern building code. If they tried to modify the old structure it would need to be made code compliant. Estimates were it would cost the same but capacity would be reduced to 15k if they went that route.

I am still a little amazed/confused/disappointed they did not go to 25,000. Construction costs go up every year and it seems it would have been more economical to go just a little larger. Everything looks classy and it will be a great improvement. CONGRATULATIONS again !!!

Disappointing is not having your own football stadium on campus and having a high school basketball gym.

I think it's smart not to build more capacity than you need. Especially when you can expand later should the need arise. You build demand through scarcity.

Disappointing is ODU having to sell out your high school stadium twice just to get as many fans as UTSA has been able to get at one game.

So, playing in the Alamodome, off campus, near downtown San Antonio is better than ODU playing out-of-doors in a newly rebuilt Ballard Stadium. Interesting.

Because the game day building encroaches too far into the area of the playing field so the stands had to be shifted further to the north.

Also, any offset there may be isn't as bad as depicted in the picture. Location of Camera adds to the exaggeration, IMHO. Check it out yourself here: https://app.oxblue.com/open/Camera2

Well most of ODU fans were disappointed too when we heard we aren't going for 30k but in the age of decreasing attendance and ODU being forced to fund the stadium from private sources with out relying on student fees has made this decision easier for the admin to stick to a 22k stadium with very good amenities. Once the NEZ is renovated and Horse shoe si completed in the second phase there won't be a bad seat in the house and every seat will be a bench back or a chair back. Believe me our old stadium is lacking in even basic amenities in a lot of areas so this will be a huge upgrade for the fanbase sans the capacity but if we do sell this 22k out we will get the NEZ and the third tier on the east side which will bring us to 30k+ should we need it.

Its a little bit close to the game day building, pressbox is shifted may be 4 to 5 feet from the center. This picture might make it a little clear. [Image: odu-stadium.jpg]

I don't see a reason for your continuous BS parade over our FB stadium capacity. Building a 35k stadium and selling cheap tickets is not what ODU admin have in mind. They want to give fans good amenities and keep the demand and price high and while most of ODU fans were mad that they didn't go the 35k seat route we came around to reason with the admins decision. A lot of empty bleachers during a game doesn't look good and we have to stick to 67.5MM budget due to state enforced restrictions on using student fees. If we do sell out 22k stadium consistently and have high demand going to 30k is doable in phase 2. So stop worrying about ODU's FB Stadium capacity and worry about Marshall's.
